New Sapporo 72 and Mobile Homes CD:s

October 14 2005 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Hans Erkendahl, singer in veteran Swedish pop quartet Mobile Homes, tells Release, they will start working on a new album now in October.

He and his band mates have been busy with clone project Sapporo 72 ("exactly the same as Mobile Homes"). Erkendahl sent us a preview copy of the "debut" album "Business and Pleasure", to be released on November 9, preceded by the single "Eurovision II" on October 26.

- We were a bit tired of Mobile Homes and wanted to go for something "super electronic" again. Thomas Hall, who then worked at SVT (Swedish National Television), asked if we wanted to record an album. And now we have done just that, Hans Erkendahl says.

Sapporo 72 wanted to go back to the basics (in particular Kraftwerk, it seems) in a playful way, assisted by some of today's artists. Sami Sirviö from Kent has worked with the songs "Nightlife" and "Business and Pleasure", Andreas Tilliander with "Eurovision" (not the single version) and Marcus Enochson with the rest.

- Now I've convinced them to let go of the guitars and focus on electronic music, which is what made them popular in the first place, Sami said to Johan Carlsson in April.

Hans thinks Sami will join them on stage.

- Andreas has already played with us live and will do so again when the occasion is right. Sami will probably also join us live from time to time.

A release party will be held at Mondo in Stockholm on October 26.

Release joined T.Raumschmiere's US Blitzkrieg

T.Raumschmiere's "Blitzkrieg Pop" (Mute/Shitkatapult) has now been promoted by the band with a tour in North America.

The highly energetic set was obviously a mix of their signature electrified rock with keyboard electro element trips. Band leader Marco Haas told us he's very happy with his live band touring as they've only been together a year now. Berliner Haas recalls he's performed on four previous tours to North America but as a solo project or DJ.

See the new video single "A Very Loud Lullaby" featuring vocalist Sandra Nasic here.

T.Raumschmiere continue to tour through Europe until December with some DJ dates by Marco.

Goldfrapp support Coldplay

October 13 2005 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Goldfrapp have announced they will support Coldplay on their upcoming European tour. In addition to these dates (18), Goldfrapp will play four dates on their own, starting in Hamburg on the 22nd this month.

In connection to the tour, on October 31 to be exact, their new single "Number 1" will appear. "Number 1" is number 12 (the last song) on the new album "Supernature" and a somewhat laidback piece, reminescent of the early days of synthpop.

The DVD edition of Kraftwerk's "Minimum Maximum", expected on September 26, obviously didn't show up (and kind of ruined my birthday a little, that day...).

US partner Astralwerks has scheduled the sought-after product for December 6. It comes in a double DVD edition and a box with double DVD, double CD and 88-page book (maybe it can lighten up Christmas?). Believe it when you see it though. Still no word on the album re-releases.

Five new Kent songs on EP

October 7 2005 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

In May, we broke the news that Swedish pop band Kent was planning an EP later this year. Those plans have now been finalised. "The Hjärta & Smärta EP" will be released on November 2 and contains the songs "Vi mot världen", "Ansgar & Evelyne", "Flen/Paris", "Månadens erbjudande" and "Dom som försvann".

Back together with the band is producer Nille Perned who produced the band's first two albums, and Stefan Boman. You can already order the EP on www.kent.nu, and when you do that you'll receive codes that allow you to download it digitally as soon as October 28. Then you get the physical copy on November 2. When we talked to Sami Sirviö back in May he said they were considering a download option like this.

- People think it's easier to download songs, and we understand that. So it's better that we find a solution, than to fight each other, the wise man said.

An EnCounter with new pop project Asombria

October 7 2005 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg)

Hanna Jonsson and Leif Genberg from EnCounter are currently preparing the debut album for their new project Asombria. While EnCounter was signed to Energy Rekords, Asombria is going to be released by the duo itself, via their web site.

- We're playing modern danceable pop, Hanna Jonsson tells me.

EnCounter played more traditional synthpop and won the best newcomer award at the Swedish Electronic Music Awards (SEMA) 1998 for their one and only album "Kontakt". After a couple of years EnCounter seemingly disappeared and I ask Leif what happened.

- We all moved to different parts of the country. We tried to make music on distance, but it wasn't the same thing. Some songs were made, but were never released. After a few years, with no real work done at all, the three of us decided to put EnCounter on hold.

Leif moved to Gothenburg 2000 and vocalist Hanna followed two years later. Soon third and remaining member Patrik Eriksson follows.

- So, it's not unlikely that EnCounter will be awakened from it's slumber, Leif says.

For the book, he has used a number of previously unreleased interviews with the band, as well as new interviews with friends, colleagues and former band members. The book is out now.

First releases from NamNamBulu offspring

October 7 2005 | By: Niklas Forsberg (Kungälv, Sweden)

After the breakup of Swiss synthpop duo NamNamBulu, musical mastermind Vasi Vallis has continued his frantic work pace. His new band Frozen Plasma will release their first single "Hypocrite" this November on Infacted Recordings. Vallis has yet to reveal the new vocalist of the band, but announces he will do so this month.

Vallis also has a new EP out under the pseudonym Reaper titled "Angst EP". Reaper features more static industrial EBM, without vocals but with plenty of samples.

AFX "Hangable Auto Bulb" EP:s on CD

October 4 2005 | By: Mike Whyte (Tokyo, Japan)

It has been announced by Warp Records that in celebration of the tenth anniversary of AFX's "Hangable Auto Bulb" EP:s, they will re-release the original two 12" on one CD.

These tracks proved to be a radical departure from Richard D. James' earlier work at the time, especially his "Ambient Works" albums, and they provided the prototype for the drill'n'bass style that would become synonymous throughout his later work.

Originally released as a strictly limited edition of 1 000, October 31 will see the chance for more people to hear the origin of Richard D. James' sound - that would later entertain (and baffle in equal measure) on tracks such as "Come to Daddy".
