More re-issue fever strikes The Cure

Sep 14 2006 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon, USA)

Picking up from the last batch of double disc re-releases, The Cure have recently added "The Top", "The Head on the Door" and "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" to their roster of re-issues.

Surprisingly, the 1983 collaborative album between Robert Smith and Siouxsie and the Banshees bassist Steve Severin entitled "Blue Sunshine" has also been given the deluxe treatment of a double disc edition. It remains the only record which The Glove ever put out and was recorded in the years 1981-1983. It is considered one of the best example of "psychedelic" work ever committed to tape and for the first time ever, all of the album track demos which feature Smith's original vocals have been included.

The Future is a promising new act from Manchester, UK, consisting of Hannah Melbourn and Steve Buick. They call their music “the soundtrack to the best dream you’ve ever had”, and likens the sound to “Depeche Mode playing James Bond themes with Goldfrapp”.

They currently have an EP called “Ward X” on Itunes. For their upcoming debut album “Nightrogen” they have been in the studio with Alan Moulder and Flood, both legendary in the music business, having worked with U2, Nine Inch Nails and Depeche Mode among others.

You can listen to some tracks at their MySpace.

If this sounds intriguing, check out their songs here.

Rammstein also has a new live DVD out soon, called “Völkerball”. It should reach stores by the end of October and features over three hours of live material from Japan, France, England and Russia. In the special edition, an extra DVD with 90 minutes of documentaries is included. There is also a CD with 75 minutes of live recordings. According to Rammstein fan site “Herzeleid”, the name is a pun, meaning either “dodgeball”, or “people’s ball”.
