English electro from MoMT

Mar 15 2007 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

The English electro label MoMT Records is busy with a couple of interesting releases.

First off, we have Skink, an electronica outfit by Paul Mulholland in the same vein as Boards of Canada, Brian Eno, Plaid and the more soft Aphex Twin tracks. The self titled album is out on March 26.

Next up is hardhitting K-Nitrate – the project by Graham Rayner from Cubanate and Christian Weber. They are soon here with a new album called “Active Cell”. Expect hard techno beats coming at you in full force on March 26.

The download only “Songs from the Hydrogen Bar: a Tribute to Chemlab” is also out on, yeah, you guessed it, March 26. Among the participating artists we find Flesh Field, 16 Volt, Cyanotic and UCNX.

Signs of Life from Berlin

Mar 13 2007 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon, USA)

Just when all hope had been lost, Berlin-based legends Dance or Die have posted a snippet of a new track called "Sleeping in Your Crave" from their forthcoming 2007 album on their Myspace site. This is the first work to emerge from the band since 2001's "Schlafendeenergie" and carries on in true Dance or Die style.

Formed in 1988, Dance or Die became one of the leading examples of the dark electro movement with their debut singles "Move" and "Fire!" still being club staples to this day. They have released five albums to date: "3001" in 1991, "Psychoburbia" in 1993, "Everspring" in 1995, "Dehumanizer" in 1998 and the aforementioned "Schlafendeenergie" in 2001. An interesting bit of trivia for Release readers, musical composer A.N.G.O. leaves other founding member vocalist Wagner to perforrm the shows with an array of backing musicians.

They are best known for their enigmatic ode to nihilism, 1994's single "Time Zero" released on the long-gone Machinery Records. Many of their works exhibit a tendency towards a pointless future and are renowned for sounding like no one else.

Live dates are currently not listed for the band nor is a release date for their new album but we will keep you informed as this becomes available.

Their previous two albums "Destination Zero" and "The Great Silence" were issued by Pandaimonium Records so it's a safe bet this one will be as well. Got flour?

The busiest man in Denmark

Mar 8 2007 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

- Maybe I should release another CD?

The most productive man in industrial since Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber released eight albums in 1994 and 1995 (under different names, it should be noted) is undoubtedly Leaether Strip’s Claus Larsen, who is already finished with his new album “The Giant Minutes to the Dawn”, after the onslaught last year with a triple-disc release from Leaether Strip, and a double-disc from side project Klutae after his long hiatus.

As usual, a considerable array of different editions is available when it goes on sale on April 13. First off, the regular CD edition, then there’s the two CD plus DVD option, and finally we have the super limited fan box which includes all of the above, plus a T-shirt and some other fan goodies.

Review complete, but it's a bit early to run it.

Nine Inch Nails viral campaign for "Year Zero"

Mar 2 2007 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

A reader tipped us about the fascinating viral campaign that’s in motion for the upcoming future-themed concept album “Year Zero”.

It all started when a fan noticed that some bold letters on a NIN T-shirt formed the phrase “iamtryingtobelieve”, which lead the fan to a web site, containing information about the drug Parepin. And so it goes on; I won’t tell you everything here, but can say it involves toilets in Europe.

For a more in depth covering, check this article in the Rolling Stone magazine.

Review of the new Nine Inch Nails DVD in progress.
