Massive re-issue from Out Out

May 15 2007 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon)

"Pepperbox Muzzle", the 1989 debut album from US-based Out Out has been given the deluxe re-issue treatment to become a box set stunningly titled "Pepperbox Muzzle: Demobox". Now augmented by a second disc of unreleased material, a metal tin, comprehensive liner notes and two lovely badges, it's sure to make any fan smile. This album bears no resemblence musically to the recent Out Out album "Virtual Sound Images" which Release reviewed a few months ago quite positively.

Parade Ground: the sophomore effort

May 14 2007 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon)

"Rosary" has been completed and is the second ever full length album (their debut "Cut Up" was released back in 1988) by the legendary Belgian duo Parade Ground. Patrick Codenys (Front 242) has produced this new one and Parade Ground are in search of a record label to release it. Fifteen tracks are contained on "Rosary" with the band raring to "go back on stage to defend the upcoming release.

Parade Ground were best known for their 12" singles "Hollywood" and "Dual Perspective". They have worked with Colin Newman (Wire) in the past and were responsible for the vocal construction on 242's "Fuck up Evil" and "Evil Off" albums. This is the first new studio activity by the band since the late 1980:s.

First listen to Recoil's "subHuman"

May 11 2007 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden) and Mattias Huss (Uppsala/Stockholm, Sweden)

Alan Wilder has posted a new video on Youtube, filmed by himself in his studio. The new Recoil album "subHuman" (July 2) has just been mastered and also mixed in 5.1 surround sound for the bonus disc. Alan shows he's working on a single edit for a track called "Prey", probably the first single. A short clip of "Prey" is played in the video (check it out here). It has a typical Recoil sound, as does most of the album. Release has listened to "subHuman", which features the vocals of blues singer Joe Richardson on five songs endowed with a gritty Mississippi streak, as well as English vocalist Carla Trevaskis on the remaining two tracks, both ethereal and aggressive.

A review will follow. Scroll down for another Recoil posting.

Free The Knife film screening tonight

May 11 2007 | By: Mike Whyte (Tokyo, Japan)

UK fans of The Knife need to take note of this – the premiere film screening of The Knife’s “Silent Shout” - dubbed as an audiovisual experience – is taking place this evening (May 11) in Manchester, and for free!

“Silent Shout” acts as a prelude to the release of their three disc deluxe edition of the film (of the same name), due for release on July 2. The film was recorded at The Knife’s Gothenburg concert in April 2006, and gives a rare glimpse of a band that pride themselves on their visual live aesthetic. This event is likely to be the first of a few further screenings in the UK, a notable one being at the Glastonbury Festival in June.

The important information then – the premiere will take place as part of the Futuresonic Festival, and will take place before Bugged Out! at Sankeys, Manchester, in the UK. The doors are set to open between 8pm and 9:30pm for the screening, so it is likely you will need to get there early. The

The “Silent Shout” DVD was first released in Sweden as a one disc product in November last year (reviewed here).

The party's over

May 10 2007 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon)

Bassist Peter Hook has confirmed the rumours swirling about that Manchester institution New Order have split for good:

"I suppose it was the interview with clint boon that started it all off he'd asked me for a few words on Perry Farrells satellite party single dogstar (which he thought was great) so i went on and lo and behold mentioned the New Order split so i suppose because it was me sayin it it was out at last. I'm relieved, really hated carryin' on as normal with an awful secret so lets move on shall we?"

Formed in 1980 out of the ashes of the immortal Joy Division, New Order defined the 1980:s and a good chunk of the 90:s with their genre-commanding 12" singles and albums. The new millenium, however, saw the band left behind by the times and they produced only two studio albums, 2001's "Get Ready" and 2005's "Waiting for the Siren's Call". Neither one were nearly as high profile or vital as their earlier works and the continual side ventures such as Electronic and Monaco apparently took their toll. Whether or not Sumner and Hook will ever work together again is in doubt.

Fear not, not one but two film biopics of Joy Division are currently in production; until then watch or re-watch "24 Hour Party People".

Further news as it is made public.

The famous and influential Back to Mine series of mixed CD:s is back – with Röyksopp its latest recruit. The series, which has featured mixes from artists including New Order, Orbital and Pet Shop Boys, has become known for allowing the artists more personal selections for the mixes, along the lines of what they might play at home after hours, hence the “Back to Mine” of the title.

Seabound singer at the Edge of Dawn

May 3 2007 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

Fans of Seabound will probably enjoy the new album by Edge of Dawn. Consisting of no other than Seabound singer Frank Spinath and Mario Schumacher, they have made "Enjoy the Fall", a thematic album about borderline personality disorder. The sound is pretty reminiscent of Seabound, which means it's melodic and brooding electropop.

Picture LP from Absolute Body Control

May 2 2007 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Old Belgian EBM project Absolute Body Control impressed me and many of the other visitors at last year's Tinitus Festival in Stockholm. Now Dirk Ivens and Eric van Wonterghem release a picture vinyl LP in a limited edition of 525 copies, with completely new versions of ten of their classic songs. The LP is called "Wind [re]Wind", recorded in February and out now on Minimal-Maximal.
