You probably know them and if you do not, you listen to music influenced by them. We are speaking of the long-standing legendary UK act Wire, who are preparing to release new album "Object 47" (Pinkflag) on July 7. This is, fittingly, their 47th release. Live dates are in the offing and the band state they plan to play some shows stateside.

Regarded by many as the creators of "post punk", Wire have released ten albums over the course of their storied career (1976-right now) and frontman Colin Newman has graced numerous album liner notes in the production helm during this time also. Their 1977 debut "Pink Flag" is considered a watershed moment in British and indeed the world of underground musical achievement. Following it with the masterful "Chairs Missing" in 1978 and "154" in 1979, this group have continually pushed the boundaries what could or can be ascribed to an act.

Release interviewed member Graham Lewis in the 90:s after his move to Sweden and the forming of his impressive electro project Halo.

"I’m quite sure that Alison and I will do some song writing"

May 13, 2008 | By: Tobias Eliasson and Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

As reported earlier, legendary band Yazoo has reunited for the "Reconnected" tour this summer. They will be on the road for almost two months, starting in Denmark and Germany in May, and then heading over to Ireland and the UK in June, finishing of that month in Spain with a show on the Sónar Festival in Barcelona. In July they will travel to the US where they never played before.

When Release talked to Yazoo a few days ago, Vince Clarke did not exactly dismiss a new Yazoo record.

– I’m quite sure that Alison and I will do some song writing while we are on tour, but there are no real plans to what will happen after this tour, he revealed.

Apparently, he hasn't grown tired of the old songs either.

– When I listened through our material, I was surprised that it seemed so fresh and vital, he said.

This week the single “Nobody’s Diary” will be out on 12” vinyl and digital download only. It will feature a remix from Erasure singer Andy Bell.

The 4 disc box set called “In Your Room” will be released on the day of the tour start (May 26); it will contain 3 CD:s and one DVD. The box will feature the two classic albums “Upstairs at Eric’s” and “You and Me Both” in remastered versions together with a collection of B-sides and remixes. Last but not least, the DVD will be fully packed with a new short film, music videos, performances from BBC and their two albums in both 5.1 and stereo mixes.

Classic Swedish indie bands return to the stage

May 13, 2008 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Three of Sweden's most important indie bands have decided to come back to the stage, for different reasons.

Yvonne reunite for a performance at Debaser Medis in Stockholm on June 7.

bob hund will play two exclusive gigs this summer; one of the at the Popaganda fest in Stockholm on August 29-30. They will record new songs in Swedish and put Bergman Rock aside.

After Anders Göthberg tragically took his life by jumping from Västerbron in Stockholm on March 30, the remaining members of Broder Daniel decided to do a final concert in tribute to him (at the Way out West festival in their hometown Gothenburg).

"It will hurt like hell", frontman Henrik Berggren said when the concert was announced a while back. No doubt.

New singles every 13th from the Cure

May 6, 2008 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon, USA)

Long standing merchants of mope, The Cure, will put out four new singles every month on the thirteenth up until the release of their new album on September - ehem - thirteenth. You may be wondering, why the timing? It is the band's thirteenth album and will be further supported by a US tour which commences on May 9 and concludes on June 21.

We have heard the first single "The Only One" and can surmise it sounds like "Wish"-era Cure meets the rather disappointing sound of their 2004 album entitled "The Cure".

Be assured, all four singles will be available in both physical and digital formats, they also will include one B-side per single also; devilish marketing, to be sure. Did we mention the new album still has no title? Well, there we said it. Insofar as plans to continue the re-issues of their previous albums, the band have said not a word.

Neubauten hand out their "Jewels"

Previously available only as a gift to the supporters of Einstürzende Neubauten's third subscription phase, "Jewels" will be released to the public on May 13 (and has already been on sale at venues of the ongoing tour). The songs have been recorded using the band's own Dave card system (read more about it here) demonstrated during some of the recent concerts and the lyrics are based on the dreams of Blixa Bargeld. The songs are much more experimental than anything on "Alles Wieder Offen".

The release of "Jewels" seems to defy an earlier statement that it would not be made available in any other form outside the supporter project.

New uptempo NIN full length album available for free

May 5, 2008 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

After the successful release of "Ghosts" a while ago, Trent Reznor has made a complete album available on www.nin.com. It's called "The Slip" and is an uptempo, guitary affair. According to a post on the site, it's a thank you to all the support Trent got from the fans. Respect. It seems like Trent is having the time of his life, making more music than ever before.

Release favourites Syntax reborn

May 2, 2008 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon, USA)

We just gleaned this from the band's Myspace, a rather cryptic note which informs us that Release favourite Syntax are working on a new album with a late 2008 release planned for it. Syntax, of course, should be quite familiar to Release readers as their debut garnered one of the few tens we have ever given a record.

For those who have been living under a rock, Syntax contains one member of the UK's legendary Fluke who are themselves known these days as 2 Bit Pie.

Further news as we get it.
