Impressive darkwave from Switzerland's Beauty of Gemina

September 24, 2008 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon USA)

"A Stranger to Tears" (distributed by Danse Macabre in Germany) is out on Friday, September 26, from one of Release's new favourites, The Beauty of Gemina from Switzerland. We took some time away from our busy lives to check out their latest video for the track "This Time" and were utterly beguiled. A tantalizing mixture of The Sisters of Mercy, The Furs and Diary of Dreams with their own flair for stripped down tunes, this act while not known to many yet is undoubtedly headed for the big time.

The band did not even know some of these existed anymore.

What to do with the Autumn nights drawing in around London

September 22, 2008 | By: Mike Whyte (London, UK)

A bold title – but things get exciting this time of year in and around London. Now that the all-too-short summer is gone, and the festival season is petering out, it's time for the clubs to take control.

A major new venue set to launch this month is the opening of Matter, a club centred around the O2 (formerly the Millenium Dome). Not just the venue is impressive – look at the upcoming line-ups over the next month: Unkle (live), Carl Cox, Sasha, John Digweed, Tom Middleton.... pretty much all the heavyweights of dance music really.

In a slightly different vein, and back deep in the underground, the highly innovative Planet Mu host a night of fun at Corsica Studios in Central London. Mary-Anne Hobbs, heads an impressive line-up including Boxcutter, u-ziq, Milanese and Global Goon. Eta September 27.

Metal girl goes solo

September 22, 2008 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon, USA) and Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Jonna Enckell from Swedish metal band The Project Hate MCMXCIX leans on her classical training on solo album "Siren on". The piano work is amazingly similar to Tori Amos' "The Choirgirl Hotel" period with operatic vocals. The majority of the songs on here are designed to calm and induce reflection.
