EP and DVD from Welle:Erdball

October 13, 2008 | By: Tobias Eliasson (Gothenburg, Sweden)

It was released in April as a 7" (on pink vinyl) in only 1000 copies that sold out on preorders, but on October 10, the "Ich bin aus Plastik" EP from Welle:Erdball was released on CD. As usual the German band really gives the listener value: the EP will have six tracks, plus a few hidden and also a trailer for the upcoming "Operation: Zeitsturm" movie that will have a proper release on DVD in 2009.

It’s not a concert movie but a proper movie that Welle:Erdball have written, directed and stars in. It will of course also feature new music from them; you can see a trailer here. The band is currently on tour in Germany where they show the movie in connection to the concerts, complete with Welle:Erdball popcorn.

Arvid close to album debut

October 13, 2008 | By: Tobias Eliasson (Gothenburg, Sweden)

We have previously reported on Arvid, a new artist from Sweden that writes music in the same spirit of Ratata and A-ha. In addition we can report that his next single, "Hur kunde jag låta det ske" will be out on November 15. Just like the last time it will be a limited release on 3" CD. The single will be followed by his first, yet untitled, album in early December.

Die Form return with single, compilation and tour

October 11, 2008 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon USA) and Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

The long-running audio-visual French band return this month with the new club single "Her(t)z Frequenz” (Out of Line). They are also part of the Out of Line Tour in November.

They have another new release entitled "Best of XXX" due out on October 31 which will feature some of their best known tracks in reworked versions and in addition, some of their lesser known output. This new entry will be available as a three CD box and a very limited metal box set of 215 copies.

Die Form have existed since the late 1970:s and are best known (oddly) for their club hit "Rain of Blood".

A little known fact is their brief dallience with Mr. Marc Verhaeghen of Klinik fame in 1991 as D.Sign. This collaboration produced only one single, the mercurial "Burning Cells" (Antler-Subway) before imploding. Interestingly enough, through all of their re-issues Die Form have never made this single available again, nor are there any plans it seems to re-issue their Elektrode project's one album which sounds very much like what the band put out in the early to mid 1990:s.

Out in October on Out of Line

October 9, 2008 | By: Tobias Eliiasson (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Auto-Auto.

German label Out of Line grows bigger and bigger and in October alone they have a number of new releases.

First, electro-goths Cephalgy deliver "Herzschlag" tomorrow.

On October 24 Out of Line will have three releases out. We have the Mexican band Amduscia with their third album "Madness in Abyss" followed by two albums from Swedish acts. Auto-Auto has worked with John Fryer (Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails) on their second album "Celeste" where they continue with their blend of synthpop and electro. And last but not least Container 90 delivers old school EBM with the album "World Champion Shit".

But hardest of them all is probably "For the Sick and Disturbed", the new EP from hard hitting Agonoize that will be out one week later, on October 31.

October 31 is also the date for the new Die Form compilation but we'll talk more about these French legends in a forthcoming News piece.

Ohgr both on screen and plastic

October 7, 2008 | By: Tobias Eliasson (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Nivek Ogre will release his new Ohgr album “Devils in my Details” on October 20 in Europe. A first listen at the Release office reveals that the album sounds more extreme and chaotic that the previous album “Sunnypsyop”.

The US will have to wait until November 18, and the day before that Ogre will also start his tour over the country, playing 25 shows.

As we reported some time ago he will also make his debut as an actor this fall in the horror movie/opera “Repo: The Genetic Opera”, said to be a mix of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Blade Runner”. He stars in the movie along with Paris Hilton, Sarah Brightman and Anthony Steward Head (Giles in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”). The movie will be out in selected theatres on November 6.

Brudershaft is reconnected

October 7, 2008 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon USA)

DJ Rexx Arkana's electro supergroup Bruderschaft resurrect with their second song "Return" on the upcoming "Re:Connected [3.0]" compilation put out by Alfa-Matrix from Belgium. This project has featured members of VNV Nation, Covenant and Assemblage 23 in the past. The new track features Tom Shear (Assemblage 23) on vocals and will be remixed by Imperative Reaction.

Alfa-Matrix also plan to celebrate their seventh anniversary as a label via their new compilation. Most followers of the electro scene know the printed counterpart to the label, Side-Line magazine which ran from 1989 to earlier this year.

Marc Moulin from Telex is dead

October 7, 2008 | By: Tobias Eliasson (Gothenburg, Sweden)

We are sad to hear that Marc Moulin from Belgian band Telex has lost his struggle against throat cancer at the age of 66.

Minimalistic electro group Telex was formed in 1978 and released several brilliant tracks like “Moskow Diskow” and “Rock Around the Clock”. They had a small comeback in 2006 with the “How Do You Dance?” album.

Depeche Mode tour and album details revealed

October 6, 2008 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

New logo and pic.

As expected, Depeche Mode revealed their current future plans on a press conference in Berlin at 13.30 today. Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher were in really good mode. Amongst all the jokes we gathered some hard facts. First of all, the new, yet untitled 12th album, is scheduled for April.

- Martin has written some really great songs, said Gahan, who also contributes as a song writer. So far, two of his contributions have been recorded but it remains to be seen which songs make it to the album. The band has a vast amount of songs to chose from this time around.

- We have to release a triple album, Andy Fletcher joked.

Martin Gore has bought lots of old equipment and the team is struggling to make it work together with modern technology. At least parts of the new album will be built on machines from the band's history and appears to be very electronic and back to the roots. Two snippets were played in Berlin.

Anton Corbijn is doing artwork and photos, for starters at least.

"Tour of the Universe 2009" starts on May 10 in Tel Aviv where they had to cancel on the last tour. It will be Depeche Mode's first stadion tour which will reach 1.3 million people. It will lean heavily on eastern Europe and many classic stops in Europe have been neglected. In Sweden, a dream comes true for the Arvika Festival.

The European leg looks like this:

May 10 Tel Aviv, 12 Athens, 14 Istanbul, 16 Bucharest, 18 Sofia, 20 Belgrade, 21 Zagreb, 23 Warsaw, 25 Riga, 27 Vilnius, 30 London.

June 2 Hamburg, 4 Düsseldorf, 7 Leipzig, 10 Berlin, 12 Frankfurt, 13 Munich, 16 Rome, 18 Milan, 20 Werchter, 22 Bratislava, 23 Budapest, 25 Prague, 27 Paris, 30 Copenhagen.

July 2 Bergen, 3 Arvika, 11 Porto.

After Europe, North and South America awaits.

Former Haujobb member resumes activities

October 4, 2008 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon USA)

Bjorn Junemann, a member of Haujobb for their first two albums has just released his debut EP under the name of Standeg which is entitled "Rushing Pictures". This download only item preceeds a full length album later in the fall. Fans of highly addictive yet thoroughly faceted electronic music would do well to investigate Standeg who thus far have only appeared on two of the "Septic" compilations.

The EP contains a magnificent re-working of the Haujobb title "Homes and Gardens"; it also contains additional new work by the band which shows indeed what a force Mr. Junemann was and is in the musical world of darkly reflective synthetics.

One of the founding members of the band, Bjorn made his exit not long after the release of "Freeze Frame Reality" an album regarded by many fans as a high water mark. As for Haujobb themselves, currently they are bogged down in legalities regarding some of their work to be included on an up-coming best of (their second). Plans for a new album have been bandied about, however, nothing concrete (sic) has emerged.

Second Emmon album in the making

October 2, 2008 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Sweden's Emmon (Emma Nylén) has scheduled her second album for February 2009. The first single off the album is "Secret & Lies" (November 11). We're still talking about electropop with an attitude, but now Emmon takes her music to the next level.

Robert Marlow returns helped by Vince Clarke

October 1, 2008 | By: Tobias Eliasson (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Vince Clarke seems to be as productive as ever, we just received the news that a new album by his childhood friend Robert Marlow, “Inside/Outside” will be released in October.

Clarke once again helps him arrange and produce the album, which is the first album since “The Peter Pan Effect” that got quite some attention back in 1999 when Swedish label Energy made it available.

Marlow did a number of shows in Sweden during that time, including a small tour with Canadian band Rational Youth.
