Listening to electronica is like visiting a sound factory. It clatters, it strums, it whirrs and it hums all around you. One sound after another is assembled and wrapped up together in some sort of beat. Eyepennies is the second album from Swedish project Folie (Stefan Thor). Just as he did on his first album he has worked out from a theme. When it was noise from his flat then, everything stems from his two-year old daughter now (not that you can tell really, apart from perhaps some of the song titles). Folie mounts his clicks, flicks and buzz to a nicety, mend it with a harmony or two and fine beats. The end product is not as stripped down as SND or as cluttered as Plaid. With the innovative move to let influences from dub and elsewhere appear briefly here and there, the album makes me, as a consumer, feel refreshed and satisfied. SUSSI PETTERSSON |
