HYBRID
DISAPPEAR HERE
ALBUM DISTINCTIVE RELEASE: MARCH 29, 2010 REVIEW: APRIL 23, 2010

The last Hybrid album is a fantastic electronic ride through rolling beats, soaring strings and simply immaculate production values. I awarded it with a score of nine out of ten, and thus my anticipation for "Disappear Here" was understandably reaching silly heights. Meanwhile, they teased me with the great single "Formula of Fear", a dancey track with a sweet piano melody and female vocals from Charlotte James, now a member of the band.

Well, finally the finished product was blasting from my speakers and to my joy the opening tracks fully match my expectations, with a sublime sound design and fierceness that makes the hair on my neck stand up.

The quality is mainly kept up until track five where it crumbles a little. And after listening through the entire album it's sadly apparent that the slow, "serious" tracks with a more traditional sound and structure bring the score down. "Every Word", "Salt" and "Numb" are pretty forgettable, as they lack the trademark Hybrid sound and energy. Other than that though, it's pretty smooth sailing, and I can always make my own playlist in iTunes. If I remove those tracks, I'm still left with nine superb ones.

"Disappear Here" as a whole doesn't live up to the glory of its predecessor, but it's damn close, and it's still thoroughly enjoyable. In a perfect world tracks such as "Original Sin", "Break My Soul" and "Take a Fall" should light up dance floors everywhere.
