Albums
Legend: “Fearless”
I thought I was fed up with dark, goth music. Then Legend came around…
Trust: “TRST”
Robert Alfons and Maya Postepski totally blew me away with this Austra side project. Synthpop with a twist that only Canadians can come up with.
Dimbodius: “Sisyphus’ Surrender”
He certainly didn’t rush this follow-up to the 2004 “While We Fall” album. Now that we have it I must say that it was sure worth waiting for.
Karin Park: “Highwire Poetry”
Things have definitely changed since “Superworldunknown” and Karin Park is now nothing short of an electronic pop queen.
Rygar: “Modulation”
Same, same but not different, thank God.
The Birthday Massacre: “Hide and Seek”
I honestly tried not to like this album, and failed.
The xx: Coexist
It didn’t hit me at first but after a couple of listens I was hooked. The relationship I have with this album will most likely become similar to the one I have with Massive Attack’s “Mezzanine”; an album that always seems to find it’s way back to my headphones.
Death in the Afternoon: “Kino”
I stumbled upon this band on YouTube. The music is sparkling pop with the right dose of nostalgia.
A Place to Bury Strangers: “Worship”
Noisy, edgy and wonderful.
Iamamiwhoami: “Kin”
Ms Jonna Lee returned with a great album for all of us tending to OD on Kate Bush, Pink Floyd and Peter Gabriel.
Songs
Henric de la Cour: “Grenade”
Mr Dracula approaches M83 and surpasses himself.
IAMX: “The Unified Field”
Chris Corner has never been afraid of blasting choruses and this single can easily be put on repeat for an hour.
The Raveonettes: “The Enemy”
This might well be their best tune, so far. Keep them coming!
Röyksopp and Susanne Sundfør: “Ice Machine”
I tend to dislike Depeche Mode covers out of principle but when Röyksopp and Susanne Sundfør performed this song on Norwegian TV they gave me goosebumps, big time! Probably the only DM cover you’ll ever need.
Live artists
The Raveonettes
They totally had the audience in Stockholm this autumn. Lots of love in the air.
Swans
Gira and friends totally changed the atmosphere at Pustervik in Gothenburg this summer. Respect!
Kraftwerk
OK, I sure was sceptical about Kraftwerk headlining the Way Out West festival but was proven so wrong in the end. I’m grateful that the 3D-glasses hid the tears in my eyes.
Newcomers
Legend
I must travel to Iceland and give the band a hug!
Artists
Dimbodius
Please, do not wait another 8 years before you release your next album.
Legend
Obscure, dark – and extremely good.
The xx
They managed to overcome the hype of the first album by releasing an even better better follow-up.
