Saft ends short but successful career

Carl Steinmarck of Saft live at the Arvika Festival.
Swedish pop duo Saft has decided to quit and focus on other projects. They mailed us a few minutes ago.
- We have been thinking and talking for a long time and reached the conclusion that we're not up to working with Saft right now. Some of you might be disappointed - and others relieved - over the fact that we disappear now, singer and musician Carl Steinmarck says.
Saft has had a short but successful career and is considered
one of the leading Scandinavian synthpop acts. The have released two albums and seven singles. Their first album was given a ten by us and they have been given Swedish Alternative Music Awards. Saft's attempts to reach out to the German market have been something of a failure, however.
The members of Saft will of course continue as musicians. Carl Steinmarck is, as reported long ago, working with Hyper together with Robert Enforsen, ex-singer of Elegant Machinery.
- The sound is not unexpectedly a mixture of Saft and Elegant Machinery. There are also other plans. Unfortunately, I can't talk about them right now. However, I promise that it's not about chorus-pop this time.
Saft doesn't rule out that they might come back one day. /Mikael Kahrle

And One say they expect to release a new album during 2001 and will work on new songs between other tasks. For some time, their web site announced a follow-up to the "I.S.T." album, but now it's down.
And One have decided to be available for several summer festival gigs. Front man Steve Naghavi will also take a couple of remix assignments. He has been hired by Berlin's funk rock stars Die Ärzte for two remixes to a forthcoming maxi single. /Jens Krause

Genesis P-Orridge biography to hit the shelves in 2001
"Future Beat" is a biography about the life and work of Genesis P-Orridge,
written by Greg Zobel. It will be published by Last Sigh Magazine in early
2001.
From his early experiments in COUM Transmissions to his latter-day
work with Thee Majesty, Genesis P-Orridge has been on a journey of constant
change. He was part of the birth of industrial music with Throbbing Gristle. He has explored cult
mechanisms. And he brought acid house to the UK with Psychic TV. Some work has
been brilliant, a lot not so brilliant. But, love him or hate him, he has
managed to remain a thought-provoking individual over the span of four
decades. /Kristoffer Noheden
