Deine Lakaien release DVD
•
The
German darkwave stars Deine Lakaien are
going to release a “Live in Concert” DVD on November 3 (preliminary
date), with around two hours of sound and video from their latest tour and an
eleven minute interview. The DVD will first be shown in Leipzig at Darkflower
on October 24. And for you who do not yet have a DVD-player - it’s cool.
The concert will also be made available on a double-CD. /Karin Martinsson
New Vancouver
band produced by Chris Peterson
• Four
blokes from Vancouver who call themselves Left Spine
Down are working on their debut album, after releasing the self-released
EP ”Click”. Readers with good memory might recognise one of the
members, namely Adrian White. He has played
drums for Frontline Assembly live on some
occasions. Further FLA connection comes in the form of Chris
Peterson, who is producing the album. Left Spine Down describe themselves
as "cyberpunk aggro-electro", and you can listen to a track here.

The first
wave of info on SAMA 2004
•
We have just received the first info
on the next Scandinavian Alternative Music Awards (SAMA), the annual
one-day fest in Gothenburg, Sweden. After only one year at the Vågen
venue, SAMA moves to Trädgår'n (also the new successful home
of co-organisers Romo Night). SAMA will this time around be held on a
Friday instead of a Saturday - on April 2 to be exact.
The traditional pre-SAMA party has previous years been the day before the big
day.
- Pre-SAMA will be at Trädgår'n one week prior to SAMA, during a
Romo Night, says Kristofer Elofsson from
SAMA.
He goes on and explains SAMA will be over two o'clock as usual and the three
hours between two and five available at the new venue will be called "post-SAMA",
with no live acts, just pure dance euphoria.
Twelve acts will perform on three stages. Six of the names are known to us at
this point, and the remaining six will probably be revealed in about one month's
time. So far, And One, Alice
in Videoland, Panzerveps, Slagsmålsklubben,
Backlash and Sophie
Rimheden shows the mixed nature of SAMA (since all these artists
are quite different from each other).
- Instead of aiming at a big headliner, we try to get a good mix of interesting
bands and something for everyone. We are aware of the fact that a lot of visitors
focus on maybe two live acts and spend the rest of night partying with friends
and so forth. There is no time to attend all gigs anyway, Elofsson says.
1 500 tickets are available from November 1 onwards with a price tag of SEK
350. The last SAMA was sold out eleven weeks prior to the event. The voting
process begins on January 1. /Mikael Kahrle
All 41 videos on new Pet Shop Boys DVD
• The new single from Pet Shop Boys
is called ”Miracles” and is pulled from the upcoming compilation
”PopArt” (November 17). The quite typical Pet Shop Boys single is
produced by Adam F and
Dan Fresh and shows a return to a more electronic sound. You can
listen to it on www.petshopboys.co.uk.
”PopArt” will be available on a double CD and limited edition triple
CD, but also on vinyl - and DVD with 41 videos on it (!). That’s every
video the boys have ever done, remastered and in chronological order. In addition
to that, extended versions of ”Domino Dancing”, ”So Hard”
and ”Go West” is included as well as a three hour interview/commentary
by Neil and Chris.

has now finished his new EP called ”Exit”. It includes a couple
of new tracks and remixes, as well as a demo of ”Backwards”. The
stand-alone single is out in November, but you can also get it as part of the
”Dependent Club Assault” package where it co-exists with
Seabound and Pride
and Fall’s new singles.
The title of Dismantled’s second album is ”Post Nuclear” and
it is scheduled for February. /Johan Carlsson
FLA fan
tribute disc unleashed
• "Replicate 01" (MOMT) is now out and features many
artists covering that enigma of enigmas, Canada's Front
Line Assembly. Most notable amongst the bands covering FLA would
be the UK's K-Nitrate (ex-Cubanate).
This disc is available via the Mindphaser web
site and definitely shows much love from the fans for Mr Leeb.
The feelings are apparently still there after the infamous Wave Gotik Treffen
incident. /Peter Marks

band Nitzer Ebb) here.

on Intoxygene. The French label is currently reorganising. /Kristoffer

Two new
Diamanda Galás albums in November
• Diamanda Galás is about to release
her first new material since 1998's album "Malediction and Prayer".
Two double albums are due out on November 24, "Defixiones, Will and Testament"
and "La Serpenta Canta". "Defixiones, Will and Testament"
is said to deal with genocide, and mainly features texts by exiled poets. With
Galás interpreting songs by John Lee Hooker,
Dan Penn and others, "La Serpenta
Canta" seems to continue the investigations of soul and blues that Galás
has previously made on albums like "This Sporting Life" and the mentioned
"Malediction and Prayer". /Kristoffer Noheden

Next
Gore single: "Loverman"
• The new single from Martin Gore’s
"Counterfeit 2" will be "Loverman". The single will come
bundled with a DVD including live tracks from Alcatraz in Milan earlier
this year. The CD contains a radio version and a remix from Bola.
"Das Lied vom einsamen Mädchen" is also included, in two remixes
by some guys called Turner and Lawrence
respectively. A 12" vinyl with the remixes will also be available. The
single is out on November 17 on Mute.
In related news, Martin Gore has done a remix for Senor
Coconut’s next single, "Smooth Operator". It’s
a return of favours since Senor Coconut aka Atom Heart
remixed Martin Gore’s track "Stardust", and also "Zenstation",
the B-side of Depeche Mode's "Freelove".

LFO back
after seven years
• Mark Bell in LFO
has finally made a new album after a seven years long hiatus. He spent those
years producing albums with Björk and
Depeche Mode for example, but now he has
found the time to get back to his own project again, even though the other member
Jez Varley has quit and is making music
under the moniker G-Man. The album is called
"Sheath" and is out now on Warp. You will recognize the style,
but it’s a bit more modern, which is not surprising… /Johan Carlsson
"Maiden Voyage" for Alice in Videoland
• The debut album from hot Swedish body punk newcomers Alice in Videoland is called "Maiden Voyage" and will be released on November 5. It's said to be energetic and should appeal to both charts and clubs. Second single and video "The Bomb" is just out with an original and a "Body Version". /Mikael Kahrle
"101"
footage lost
•
The
classic Depeche Mode documentary and concert
film "101" is set for DVD release on October 20 (Europe) and 21 (North
America). This double disc DVD version will include additional footage and interviews
with the current three members of Depeche Mode as well as interviews with the
famed "bus kids" who won trips to follow the Mode on their 1988 "Tour
for the Masses". Alan Wilder has declined
to do an interview. Mute founder Daniel Miller
appears to discuss the beginnings and career of Depeche Mode.
Unfortunately, the entirety of the Rose Bowl show, which was initially
promised to be included on this DVD, will not be here. The footage has gone
missing and no one seems to be able to locate it. But a lot of effort has been
placed on the DVD. Months have been spent in "labs and studios" so
that the DVD quality is high with 5.1 sound.
In addition to all of this, there is a special screening on October 9 at the
Prince Charles Theatre in London, England. On hand will be Andrew
Fletcher with an introduction followed by a short presentation by
the filmmakers D A Pennebaker and Chris
Hegedus. Fletcher will conclude the evening with a q&a session.
