The Knife takes the stage; CD out today February 15 2006 | By: Mattias Huss (Åbo, Finland)
The Swedish sibling duo and electronic pop band The Knife has garnered a reputation in the indie crowd for doing things their own way. For instance they have only played live once during their whole career, and that was in London. This is about to change, as three live dates in March and April (see On Stage) have been scheduled in Sweden. The gigs will be heavy on visuals and theatrics, some of it provided by Andreas Nilsson who has previously made videos for the band. The band will also feature two additional, unknown members on stage. Performances in London, Berlin and Paris will follow. The new album "Silent Shout" is released in Sweden today, on February 15, March 6 in the rest of Scandinavia and March 20 in the rest of Europe. For their press photos, Olof Dreijer and Karin Dreijer Andersson seem to have borrowed the masks that Mortiis hasn't bothered about using lately and trudged into the snow laden woods. The Knife in 2006, it appears, is more goth than disco. Album review in progress.
Out Out return after almost a decade February 15 2006 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon, USA) The end of February will see the first new album from the American electronic band Out Out in nearly ten years. "Virtual Sound Images" (Radio Valkyrie) is described by sole member Mark Alan Miller as "A departure from the more 'rock' aspects of earlier Out Out releases - perhaps "clubbier" - but just as layered, detailed and intense". Out Out released several albums throughout the 90:s, debuting back in 1991 with "Pepperbox Muzzle". This album contained their biggest club hit "D.W.I.". Other albums included "Finched", "Nisus" and 1997's "Voiceprint". Last year saw the release of a two-disc compendium entitled "Hasten the Burning with the Breath of Fools" which was chock full of unreleased mixes and covered the first decade of the band's existence, 1989-1999. Miller was also involved with another US based cult act Vein Cage for their debut album "Feral Din" released in 1992. Israeli electronics with Spanish influences February 13 2006 | By: Mike Whyte (Tokyo, Japan) Mo-Shic is about to release his first studio album “Salamat” on Yoyo Records this month. The album, which has been two years in the making, promises to give a distinctly different slant on the progressive house genre. This is not just down to his Israeli roots, his Spanish influences or love of the guitar, but because of the extensive worldwide touring and deejaying that have pre-empted this release. The two-CD set will feature two distinct flavours – the first disc features more progressive house, with the second a more downbeat affair. This release follows on from his mix CD “World Series”, which was the first release in that collection. The album was released worldwide on February 6.
