Yorke solo: more electronic than Radiohead May 15 2006 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden) Radiohead’s front man and singer Thom Yorke has fiddled with his own material for a couple of years, and now we will finally get to hear what it sounds like. “The Eraser” is out on XL Recordings on July 10 in Europe, and July 11 in the US. Thom says it’s got more beats and electronics than Radiohead, but it’s still a song based album. He doesn’t want it to be called a solo album – even though I guess it is? However, it's done with the blessing of the other band members and produced by Nigel Godrich who produced “OK Computer”.

Dead Air from Baron Mordant May 9 2006 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon, USA) The first full-length album from Portion Control member Ian Hicks is nearing release. "Dead Air" (Mordant Music/Cargo) was originally slated to be put out in April but has encountered some last minute hitches. This project has releases in just about every format: 7" vinyl singles, 12" vinyl EP:s, and a limited run 3" CD EP which came in a petri dish to name a few. The music ranges from airy, acoustic ballads to full-on sonic experimentation and the occasional dance tune. A site has been set up for the public to at last be able to view this somewhat surreptitious, oblique act. "Dead Air" features narration from Thames TV continuity announcer Philip Elsmore and has been preceded by a new single for the album track "Fallen Faces/Dead Air (Dead Edit)" which was released to "herald the whole unseemly episode". Celldweller goes to the disco May 8 2006 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)
Celldweller – a long time favourite of mine with his mix of metal and electronica – has just released a brand spanking new cover of The Bee Gees' ”Tragedy”. The guy behind the project is called Klayton and has been a member of Prong, Angeldust and Criss Angel. The latter is a project with the magician/performance artist Criss Angel, and Klayton has just collaborated with him on the theme song for the new season of Criss TV show “Mindfreaks” Meanwhile, he's also diligently working away on the next Celldweller album, due out later this year.
Depeche Mode overload with double single May 4 2006 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden) As usual, Depeche Mode tries to wrestle your wallet for your hard earned cash by releasing their singles in more formats than you can shake a stick at. All of these are released on June 5: First off, there's the fourth single from "Playing the Angel" in one year: double A-side “John the Revelator"/"Lilian”, with reworked versions of those tracks. Then there's the limited CDM, with a bunch of remixes by acts such as U.N.K.L.E and Tiefschwarz. The DVD version has the promotional video, “Nothing's Impossible (Bare version)” and another “Lilian” remix. Finally, there are two different 12” vinyl editions, with various remixes. And in case you missed it, they recently released the brilliant James Holden mix of “The Darkest Star” on a separate 12” as well.
