Cruise with VNV Nation

Jun 29 2006 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Goths everywhere, here's your chance to get some fresh sea air and a healthy sun tan!

The Annual Gothic Cruise and Masquerade Ball will be held on the Carnival Triumph, departing from Miami on October 6 next year (yes, 2007) for a seven day cruise of the Eastern Caribbean.

Although I would not call them a goth band, VNV Nation will play a full concert and give away a cruise-exclusive CD to all passengers. The 893 feet Carnival Triumph has a max capacity of 3427 passengers (but normally 2758 are brought onboard).

Also, expect a gothic art auction, fashion show, cocktail parties and everything else the regular goth has come to expect from a cruise.

The goths have a number of options onboard for exercise: gym, jogging track and swimming in one of the four pools. Of course, there's also the eighteen bars.

Front Line Assembly take the next bus

Jun 28 2006 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

It's already time for a follow-up to yesterday's News on the cancelled Front Line Assembly US tour.

Drummer Adrian White posted on the Mindphaser forum last night and told us a bit more about the situation. They're working on a new deal with a new booking agent, one responsible for handling Sarah McLachlan, Sum 41 and many more in the past. Adrian can't say anything about dates, but they will return to New York and play there later, on a “make up” tour.

The Vancouver date on July 6 is still on, now with Conjure One as opener, but the other Canadian dates will wait for the pick up tour of the cities that were left out this time around.

Howard Jones and Simon Le Bon on new Ferry Corsten album

Jun 28 2006 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

Ferry Corsten's last and successful album “Right of Way” is getting a sequel in the form of “L.E.F”. The acronym stands for "Loud Electronic Ferocious", which is how Ferry describes his music. The album is out now and features my old favourite Howard Jones as well as Duran Duran front man Simon Le Bon. Ferry also made a version of the classic techno track “Cubik” by 808 State.

There are four different versions of the album, for different regions of the world. The only difference is the bonus track though, so don't worry too much.

Arvika falsely announced Suicide Commando

Earlier this week, Arvika Festival announced they had booked Belgian EBM project Suicide Commando but now they say they haven't.

Front Line Assembly US tour cancelled

Jun 27 2006 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

The current US tour with Front Line Assembly came to an abrupt halt when the tour bus company failed to deliver what was promised. The New York gig was cancelled, and now the entire North American tour is off as well. Vancouver is happening though, and Calgary and Edmonton might happen as well, but the band can't promise anything.

So far the European tour is not affected by these events. More news as we get it.

In its final artist release, the Arvika Festival (July 13-15) announces Ladytron, Mesh, Suicide Commando, Cryo and Thermostatic.

KMFDM has cancelled; Arvika says its because they will go on a US tour - this autumn (!). Release' Kristoffer Noheden, who caught them in Gothenburg on their 2005 tour, says their live shows of today leave much to be desired.

A handful of Release writers plan to visit Arvika this year.

Alan Wilder: DM remasters and Recoil

Jun 22 2006 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

After a long break from Recoil, Alan Wilder is preparing a new album in his Thin Line Studio. Everything is "progressing well" but we will not hear the result before 2007.

Alan Wilder is featured on the new Depeche Mode remasters of "Music for the Masses" and "Violator"; in the well-made and interesting DVD documentaries. There we can also hear Dave Gahan talking about his former band mate.

The rest of the Wilder albums: "Construction Time Again", "Some Great Reward", "Black Celebration" and "Songs of Faith and Devotion" will be re-released later this year, according to Wilder's web site.

Alan Wilder has yet again been working with Depeche Mode. He was an advisor during the re-mastering process.

Another Spanish electronic music festival

Jun 22 2006 | By: Mike Whyte (Tokyo, Japan)

Spain is in the grip of festival frenzy. Here is another top event to look out for.

The MEC (Madrid Electronic Conference), will take place between the July 6 and 9. This first ever event will take place in the capital, and feature debates, interactive stands, equipment displays, networking lounges, as well as VJ and DJ performances and workshops.

Those taking part in the night events (split across three themed nights – trance, techno and house) will include such heavyweights as Frank Trax, Dave Clark, Erik Morillo, Richie Hawtin, Tiësto and Junkie XL (live).
