Jul 30 2006 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon, USA)

"Ich Will Leben (I Want Life)" from Unheilig is out September 9 and features Project Pitchfork's Peter Spilles as a guest. Unheilig will also be performing at the M'era Luna Festival on August 12 followed by a small German tour during the months of September and October.

In Pitchfork news, two new long form songs are now available for download at the band's website. Work continues on their follow up to 2005's "Kaskade".

FLA and S.P.O.C.K to headline free festival

Jul 30 2006 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

The people of the Öresund region in Sweden and Denmark can look forward to the SubSpace Encounter one-day festival in central Malmö on August 19.

There are three reasons to cheer. First, it's free-of-charge. Secondly, all ages are welcome (well, maybe the older fans don't cheer for this).

But then we have the line-up, a rather impressive one if we may say so: Front Line Assembly (for the first time in Sweden in ages, as part of their European tour), S.P.O.C.K (who rarely play live these days), Tiger Lou, Alice in Videoland (who always show-up on most fests), Stromkern, Disco Digitale, Air Bureau and many more.

The SubSpace Encounter is a part of the city fest Malmöfestivalen.

Jul 30 2006 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon, USA)

"The Long Term Physical Effects Are Not Yet Known" (EMI) is the title of the new album from Sweden's Jay-Jay Johanson, scheduled for October.

The track list looks like this: "She Doesn't Live Here Anymore", "Time Will Show Me", "Coffin", "Rocks in Pockets", "As Good as It Gets", "Only for You", "Tell Me When the Party's Over", "Breaking Glass", "New Year's Eve", "Jay-Jay Johanson Again", "Prequiem" and perhaps most fittingly "Peculiar".

"Kraftwerk vs modern electro"

Jul 30 2006 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Sweden's Progress Productions continues to expand with the album "Sample and Hold" from Stockholm's System on August 23.

The System output is described as "Kraftwerk vs modern electro". Judge for yourself here, where three full album tracks are available for download.

Don't confuse System for System 22 on the US A Different Drum label.

Further revelations from the East

Jul 30 2006 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon, USA)

Eastern Europe continues to tighten its grip on the electronic musical world as another new act called Anhedonia have just released their debut album aptly entitled "Destructive Forces" (Aliens Productions). If you've not heard of this band before, you can check out Anhedonia's site for all the details and several sound samples.

A compilation from Aliens Productions entitled "Signs" was released last year and was the subject of a Release news bit at the time. For those not familiar with what is happening in the Eastern scene, the trademarks thus far have been extremely complex programming, beats with excessively dark overtones. Other practitioners of this style, if it is one, include Disharmony, Fragments of War, Terminal State and Oxyd to name a few.

The last Ministry album

Jul 21 2006 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

According to an interview with Billboard.com, Al Jourgensen claims the next Ministry album will be the last. He will do “The Last Sucker” right after the ongoing "MasterBaTour", and it will finish off his trilogy of albums about the current administration in the White House. Al says he will instead focus on his new label 13th Planet Records.

Release can reveal that Bon Harris and Douglas McCarthy got so inspired by playing together as Nitzer Ebb again on the current “Body of Works” tour that they are currently working on new material.

- We started to write new music a couple of weeks ago, and our plan is to release an EP with new Nitzer Ebb material before the end of 2006, says Bon Harris during a Release interview at the Arvika Festival last Friday.

According to Bon, the new material will be back to basics - back to the roots of Nitzer Ebb - and the sound will be very simple and direct.

If all goes as planned, Nitzer Ebb will test the new songs live in August.

The double compilation "Body of Work" is out now (review here) and the remix album “Body Rework” will be out on July 26, both with old recordings.

Stand by for a Spotlight.

Nitzer Ebb and Front 242 to headline Tinitus

Jul 17 2006 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

As if the Tinitus festival 2006 wouldn't be successful with just Nitzer Ebb, they also through in an "exclusive old-school 25th anniversary concert" with Front 242.

When flyers breaking the line-up news with these two giants were distributed at this year's Arvika Festival people started cheering and forgot the concerts they were watching.

Tinitus 2006 takes place on October 28 at Münchenbryggeriet in Stockholm. Unter Null and a number of other live acts, to be announced later, are also to perform.

Arvika Festival back on track

Jul 17 2006 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Last weekend's 15th Arvika Festival was a sold-out (15 600 ticket buyers plus guests, staff, media and so forth) and a couple of extra camping areas had to be mobilised.

- It was a marvellous fest which exceeded our highest expectations, the organisers say.

After two years with red financial figures, the festival is back on track. Plans are already in progress for next year's event.

The weather gods were kind enough to offer sunshine during the three days and a number of artists delivered performances which were praised by the audience: especially The Knife but also Nitzer Ebb, Covenant, Slagsmålsklubben, Teddybears Sthlm and many more.

Joakim Montelius of Covenant (who camped next to Release at the press/artist camping) was in ecstasy after The Knife's spectacular gig at the main stage. He said it was the best concert he had been to and joked that there was no point for them to play their concert the night after, because there was no way they could top that. But they did play and an inspired show it was too.

Release report in progress.
