Old Swedish new wave and post punk acts still active

Jul 30 2007 | By: Tobias Eliasson (Gothenburg, Sweden)

A lot of classic Swedish bands from the 80:s are having something of a revival at the moment; here is a little summary of what’s going on.

Twice a Man have finished a demo version of their upcoming album "Clouds" and have already tried some of the new material at two gigs in their hometown of Gothenburg. "Clouds" which is scheduled for September is a calm and atmospheric affair. You can find samples on their Myspace page.

Twice a Man are currently working on music for a production of "Angels in America" at Borås Stadsteater which will be premiered on September 27.

We'll get back to Twice a Man at News shortly.

Playing live alongside Twice a Man, Ladomir returned to the stage for after 19 years. They have started to work with producer Charlie Storm (member of Strasse, that also played at the same night) and both new and old material is up on their webpage.

Kitchen & the Plastic Spoons have been very hard to find, since they only released three singels during their existence in 1980-81. But now, “Best Off”, a 20 track compilation have been released on Ill Wind Records.

And for those of you not familiar with the old Swedish postpunk and new wave scene, check out the new compilation “Svensk Postpunk – Klassiker”, a double-CD with many of the hard-to-find bands like Tredje Mannen, Ståålfågel, Cortex & TT Reuter.

Belgian festival with strong line-up

Front 242 played close to home.

"The Gothic Festival" commenced in Waregem, Belgium the past weekend. Nitzer Ebb, Project Pitchfork, Diary of Dreams, In Strict Confidence, Front 242, Covenant and several other acts performed and obviously the nostalgia factor was high.

IAMX working on new album

Jul 24 2007 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

I got a chat with Release favourite Chris Corner (IAMX) at the Arvika Festival in Sweden, and he told me that he has about twelve new tracks almost finished. He thinks they are of good enough quality to make a new album, and they just need to be recorded.

Chris is aiming for a release in early 2008. Meanwhile, he’s playing a lot of gigs in both Europe and USA, so be sure to check him out.

A longer Spotlight will be published soon.

New Decree album in the works

Jul 24 2007 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

Also at the recent Arvika Festival, I ran into Chris Peterson from Front Line Assembly and Decree. Chris told me that his focus after the current FLA tour would be some producing jobs (Unit 187 for example), and then finishing the new Decree album. Some tracks are already finished, and as a teaser he told me that he’s sneaked in some Will elements into it this time. And I won’t complain about that.

Rammstein fake news causes confusion

Jul 19 2007 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

The story from earlier this week regarding the departure of Rammstein vocalist Till Lindemann was fake. This has caused confusion in media and Rammstein communities around the world.

We received an accurate-looking and well-written press release from (what we thought was) the Rammstein management (with contact details and so forth). When we surfed the web we saw the news published on numerous media and music sites and we decided to run the story.
