Lady Jaye Breyer P-Orridge RIP Oct 13 2007 | By: Mattias Huss (Uppsala/Stockholm, Sweden) Lady Jaye Breyer P-Orridge, member of Psychic TV and wife of Genesis P Orrigde, died suddenly on Tuesday October 9 at home in Brooklyn, New York from a previously undiagnosed heart condition which is thought to have been connected with her long-term battle with stomach cancer. The band's tour dates in North America have been cancelled. More information on Genesis' website. Psychic TV tour screw-up Oct 11 2007 | By: Mattias Huss (Uppsala/Stockholm, Sweden) After playing a brilliant gig at Nalen in Stockholm on September 30, Genesis P-Orridge and his cohorts in PTV3 abruptly announced that they were canceling the rest of the tour. The band reports on their website that this is due to management and agency incompetence on the part of Archangel Management. Indeed, promotion for the show in Stockholm was scarce, almost non-existent, and the gig was moved to a smaller venue, perhaps due to poor ticket sales. This seems to have been the case at many other tour venues. Adam Elfin of Archangel Management has a different view on what happened. The debate can be followed in the news comments on Genesis P-Orridge's website. Sweden in top 5 of Neubauten supporter project Oct 10 2007 | By: Mattias Huss (Uppsala/Stockholm, Sweden) Einstürzende Neubauten are releasing their new, independently managed album "Alles wieder Offen" on October 19 in Europe and October 23 in the US. The album was financed by subscription fees from supporters who have signed up on the band's website. Blixa Bargeld has hinted in an interview for Re-public that if the record releasing process (i.e. supporter subscriptions, self released album, independent promotion) doesn't work out financially this time around they "will not be able to continue working". The list of countries with most supporters starts like this: 1. Germany: 662; 2. USA: 405; 3. UK: 256; 4. France: 109; 5. Sweden: 81. The total number of supporters during this, the third phase of the supporter project, was 2245. This is a bit more than during phase one but less than phase two. New double album from COH Oct 10 2007 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon, USA) Russian-transplant Ivan Pavlov has recently completed a new double album entitled "Strings" (Raster-Noton) which conceptually attempts to reconcile the aesthetics of digital sound with those of more traditional musical instruments. Baffled? Not to worry, for years COH's works have done exactly that to both critics and fans alike. Often viewed as a contemporary to Coil (RIP), COH have released many many albums which define the term "avantgarde". In addition to this new double album, Pavlov also has released an insanely limited disc called "Super Suprematism" which is made available to the public in an edition of thirteen (no, that's no typo) copies. As of this writing, one copy remains for sale on his website for a mere 100 Euros. This one comes in a box set and is even more obscure in concept than "Strings". Those who are curious about this enigmatic man's work can peruse it here.
Bad news for electriXmas Oct 9 2007 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden) Swedish mini festival electriXmas is having a hard time right now. Headliner Apoptygma Berzerk will not play, the web site has been down and a competing event has been advertised close to electriXmas the same day, on December 15: Laibach at KB in Malmö, Sweden. electriXmas claims Apoptygma Berzerk cancels due to health issues for Stephan Groth. Jan Winterfeld at Pluswelt Promotion claims electriXmas released Apoptygma Berzerk prematurely and that "cancelled" is not the word to use. – electriXmas and I agreed on terms and finances. But I asked them to hold on until we have a definite answer from band and management. Which never appeared. I had originally also scheduled a Russian tour of three dates and a trip to South America of another three dates so Malmö is not the only one suffering from this decision. electriXmas is working on a replacement for Apoptygma Berzerk, their web site is up again and they say they are in discussions with the organisers of the Laibach show in order to find a solution. New album from Radiohead out in ten days Oct 1 2007 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden) In a surprising move, Jonny from Radiohead has announced that the new album "In Rainbows" will be out in just ten days! The band is releasing it through their own web site, and not through a label, which should be interesting to follow. You can pre-order it right now on www.radiohead.com, both as download and as a "discbox". The latter is a sweet package including "In Rainbows", both on CD and as double 12" vinyl, plus a second enhanced CD with more new tracks, photographs and artwork. All encased in a hardback book and slipcase. The download version is also included in the deal, which is handy because the download is out on October 10, whereas the discbox isn't out until December 3. Now to an interesting aspect, namely the price. The discbox is £40 plus postage, but the cool thing about the download is that you enter the amount you want to pay yourself on the website. There's no set price.
