March wouldn't be March without the build up of anticipation for the summer festivals; and we aren't disappointed, with the initial line-up released for Sonar 2008. As you probably already know, Sonar is held in Barcelona, Spain, and is quite probably Europe's premier electronica and dance festival. It has also has more than a cursory eye for the experimental too, something which always gives the artist line-up that little bit of excitement that draws people to the festival year after year. As it goes, this could be one of the most exciting years yet, with these artists already confirmed: Antipop Consortium, Frankie Knuckles, Goldfrapp, M.I.A., Miss Kitten, Yazoo, Roisin Murphy, Yelle, and DJ Scotch Egg – some highlights from the many, many acts that are due to perform. There are also a host of acts recently confirmed too, and more awaiting confirmation – Leila, Madness and Kid Acne being recent additions to the festival roster. As always, the line-up throws up special performances not anticipated or even believed possible to happen. Both Antipop Consortium and Yazoo reform in time for the festival, while some of the most cutting edge performers at the moment, such as DJ Scotch Egg and M.I.A., add a whole new dimension to the proceedings. Goldfrapp and Miss Kitten also provide some of the glamour and popularity which will no doubt pack in the crowds. As always, tickets and information on the whole line up is available via the Sonar festival website – www.sonar.es – and don’t forget those important festival dates: June 19 to 21.
