Unter Null studio and album burned up

December 29, 2008 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

A fire destroyed the home studio of Erica Dunham (industrial project Unter Null) during Christmas. The new Unter Null album was completed the day before the fire and there seem to be no backups. Erica and her family got out of the burning house in time and are not living in a hotel.

Project Pitchfork resume activities

December 22, 2008 | By: Peter Marks (Portland, Oregon USA)

"Dream, Tiresias!" (Candyland Entertainment), the new album from Germany's Project Pitchfork, will be released on February 27 of next year and is preceded by a single called "Feel!" on January 23. Samples of this long awaited album can be checked out on the band's MySpace.

A tour is in the works also for the band with a number of live dates confirmed through July. The band have slimmed down to the trio of Peter Spilles, Jürgen Jansen and Dirk Scheuber, as can be seen in the charming new photograph above.

Insofar as US dates are concerned, none appear to be in the offing although this may change. Project Pitchfork have not released a new studio album since 2005's "Kaskade" with Peter Spilles moonlighting in both Imatem and his more bizarre project Santa Hates You.

Ohgr's second tour is almost complete with 25 dates in US and Canada. The "Live Devils in My Details" tour was originally delayed but managed to get started in San Diego on November 18. The tour has run through medium size clubs. Ohgr's last tour was for the debut release "W.E.L.T." in 2001.

We caught the live date at Boston where we talked to Nivek Ogre. The band (Ogre: vocal treatments, William Morrison: guitar, Justin Bennett: drums, Squigg: keyboards) played through most of the new concept record release with added favourites from the two earlier CD:s. The live line-up had a new energy with Ogre playfully interacting with the audience.

At an earlier stop in California, cult actor Bill Moseley appeared onstage to perform the spoken word segments he recorded on the latest album "Devil in My Details". On this tour, long time Skinny Puppy stage tech Sasha Coon, who suffers from a back injury he got in April, has been promoted to tour stage manager This tour ends December 22 at Tempe, AZ, just before Christmas. American Memory Project has been the supporting act for all tour dates.

Ohgr looks to tour Europe in the spring if the anchor dates are secured.

On a sidenote, Ogre's actorial debut in "Repo! The Genetic Opera" continues a limited run at select US movie houses.

"Illusion" clip close to 1 million views

December 17, 2008 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Here is an example how internet can spread the music of an artist in an unexpected way. In 2007, Youtube user Elektricc put Andy Huang's award winning "Doll Face" short film and the emotional VNV Nation song "Illusion" together - and what a fit it was.

- The first time we saw this, we were left speechless. The video and song could not be more perfectly matched. Both are essentially saying the same thing, VNV Nation states.

The unofficial five star video clip will soon reach 1 million views at Youtube with 80 000 views per month. VNV Nation hope to be able to work with Andy Huang in the future.

Torture with Nine Inch Nails music

December 17, 2008 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Nine Inch Nails' music is being used for breaking down prisoners at US camps like Guantanamo Bay and Trent Reznor has now posted a comment on his web site:

- It's difficult for me to imagine anything more profoundly insulting, demeaning and enraging than discovering music you've put your heart and soul into creating has been used for purposes of torture. If there are any legal options that can be realistically taken they will be aggressively pursued, with any potential monetary gains donated to human rights charities.Thank GOD this country has appeared to side with reason and we can put the Bush administration's reign of power, greed, lawlessness and madness behind us.

Artists like Nine Inch Nails, Massive Attack and Rage Against Machine have teamed up for a campaign against this misuse of their songs.
