And One cover album released today January 30, 2009 | By: Mkael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden) And One's delayed "Bodypop 1/2" is finally released today. The cover album turned it a mix of new and remixed songs and nine live versions of the eighties electropop covers ("Blue Monday", "Smalltown Boy", "The Sun Always Shines on TV", "Only You", "True Faith", "The Great Commandment", "Big in Japan", "It's a Sin" and "Sometimes"). Check out front man Steve Naghavi's New Year's speach (in German). Electronic music fest in Birmingham January 28, 2009 | By: Mike Whyte (London, UK) Looking for something to do that takes your mind off the rather depressing credit-crunched life we're all leading at the moment? The White Noise Festival could be something to take the edge off! The White Noise Electronic Music Festival is two days of cutting edge electronic music - from krautrock to car alarm techno, with much more besides. Set in Birmingham, in the centre of England, the festival will feature twelve bands and seven DJ:s in a unique Victorian pub in Birmingham's regenerated arts quarter. Both nights commence at 7pm, and run on to 4am each morning. New vocalists in Swedish electropop bands January 27, 2009 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden) Three Swedish electropop bands have hired new vocalists. Memento Materia's Code 64 have a new singer in Bjørn Marius Borg. The band is currently recording new music. Ashbury Heights (pic) can release their second album "Take Cair Paramour" as early as this Spring, because work is progressing well with new vocalist Kari Berg. Karin My Andersson (solo artist, Twice a Man, Coph Nia, ex-Nemo - pre-Alice in Videoland) has joined Robert Enforsen's Hype temporarily and performed live with Hype in Berlin a while ago. Elegant Machinery and Mobile Homes headline club anniversary January 23, 2009 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden) Elegant Machinery will play alongside Mobile Homes, Emmon and Mr Jones Machine when Gothenburg's Synthklubben celebrates three years on February 28. Elegant Machinery will also perform in Malmö on April 9, together with S.P.O.C.K and Mobile Homes. We have previously reported about the February 7 gig in Stockholm with Mobile Homes and West End Girls. There might also be a concert in Karlskrona at some point. On April 24 and 25 the band travel to Leipzig and Berlin. Elegant Machinery released their comeback album "A Soft Exchange" late last year and Mobile Homes deliver their new creation in February. West End Girls have scheduled a new single on February 5. Manifest Awards nominees revealed January 20, 2009 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden) The nominees for the Swedish independent Mainfest Awards have been revealed. In the "Synth" category (where Release' Johan Carlsson is included in the jury), we find Elegant Machinery, Zeigeist, Moonlight Cove (pic) and Thermostatic (with Release' writer Peter Marchione). The winners are presented at Nalen in Stockholm on February 6. IAMX remix album out now January 19, 2009 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden) An IAMX remix album suddenly turned up, with little or no warning. Called "Iamixed", it features remixes by Gary Numan and Imogen Heap among others. It's actually available now. That's not enough to satisfy my lust for the upcoming album though. New Röyksopp album with many guests January 18, 2009 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden) The eagerly awaited - at least by me - third album by Norwegian electropoppers Röyksopp is set to be released on March 23. It's called "Junior" and this time the lads have worked with a plethora of Scandinavian singers, namely Robyn, Lykke Li, Anneli Drecker and Karin Dreijer. If you go to http://www.royksopp.com/ you can listen to the first single "Happy up Here", out on March 9. It's good stuff with a slight Air feel to it, and makes me all jittery about the album. |
