November 27, 2009 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Mergel Kratzer

Dark electronic project Mergel Kratzer was started by Joel Nygren on the Swedish island Gotland in 2004. The maxi single "Virus" was released two years later and after moving to Gothenburg, a new chapter has begun with the new location, new members, numerous live shows and a new album - "Isotop", released one month ago.

The new recruits are Angelica "Thistel" Klüft (visuals, costume design, drums) and Julia Meller (keyboards), who is from St Petersburg in Russia.

Mergel Kratzer will play in Sao Paolo, Brazil, in December, and Stockholm, Sweden, in February.

November 25, 2009 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Many readers have asked us if the annual Das Boot festival should return in December as usual. We have known for a couple of months that February 6-7 2010 are the new dates, but it was not official until today. The next 23 hour electronic music cruise from Stockholm will take place on a weekend, on Saturday-Sunday (instead of Thursday-Friday).

The first live acts are Leæther Strip and Karl Johan.

New Syntax tracks online

November 25, 2009 | By: Johan Carlsson (London, UK)

Old Release favourites Syntax have posted some new tracks on their MySpace page. It says it's a taste of what's coming "next year" on the a album, so hopefully we'll get a brand spanking new Syntax album in 2010. The new material has a more organic and bluesy feel to it, and I have no idea in which stage they are in, but check it out.

Delerium r'n'b pop single released today

November 24, 2009 | By: Johan Carlsson (London, UK)

Yes, it's true. Allegedly, it's only a one-off song done together with Kreesha Turner, a Canadian pop singer, but it's a bit worrying nonetheless. They have said the upcoming album next year will be more old-school Delerium, so let's wait and see before we burn anything.

That said, the track is not bad, it's a catchy pop affair that might chart pretty nicely, but it sure doesn't sound like Delerium. The song in question is called "Dust in Gravity" and is out as digital release only on November 24.

Sign up to the Delerium newsletter to hear the entire track.

Nitzer Ebb: album release date January 22

November 19, 2009 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

After years in the making, its finally time for the new Nitzer Ebb album. "Industrial Complex" has just been scheduled for a January 22 release.

- And we have a deal for Germany/Austria/Switzerland, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. We are about to sign the Scandinavian deal right now, Hayo Lewerentz from Major Records tells Release today.

Lewerentz has a past as a musician and producer in, for instance, U96 and Boytronic. His indie Major label is working with Ladytron, IAMX, Mesh and Emmon. Nitzer Ebb will work with different partners in other territories.

Yesterday, they kicked off their new tour in USA. On many dates Nitzer Ebb will warm-up the Depeche Mode audience just like back in 1988..

- The DM tour almost came out of the blue. We had Martin Gore sing backing vocals on the track “Once You Say” for the new album because we were looking for a ballsy female black gospel singer so Mart came straight to mind. Seriously that’s what we thought. We have remained friends with the boys since first signing to Mute in the Eighties, 43-year old LA resident Douglas McCarthy says on web site Lost in a Supermarket.

Nitzer Ebb songs have appeared in NCIS, Fringe, the new Saw movie and Tony Hawk Ride.

John Alexander Ericson shows no sign of slowing down

November 19, 2009 | By: Niklas Forsberg (Kungälv, Sweden)

Swedish former Northern Territories member John Alexander Ericson has continued his active run of releases and the latest is his solo album "Songs from the White Sea" (October 16), where he builds on his trademark calm mix of guitars, piano and occasional electronics. BBC calls the album a "quiet triumph".

The single "Over the Darkness and over the City" is available as a free download.

He also had time to release the self-titled debut album by Stjarna this past Summer (a project Ericson has together with Brit Jamie Kane).

More from the Norwegian music archives

November 17, 2009 | Edited: November 18, 2009 | By: Tobias Eliasson (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Horsemen.

We have previously written about the collection "Maskindans" from Hommage Records in Norway; an impressive take on the alternative scene in Norway during 1980 to 1988.

Now they have announced two new releases.

The first one is E-Man, the very first project from Geir Jenssen (Bel Canto, Biosphere). Originally a MC, it will now be released on vinyl with bonus tracks.

The other release is another collection, "The Temptation Tapes Volume 1". This is also a vinyl release, containing works from The French Connection, Clockwork Orange, Downers and Horsemen. Tor Dybdahl, the man behind the Temptation label and member in the four bands featured, have worked very hard with the mastering since these are also orginally on tape. The release will contain ten tracks in total, some of them unreleased and even with newly recorded vocals.

Both of these will be limited to 500 copies. There will be a release party on November 27 at Blitz in Oslo; Horsemen will also play live.

It's been rather quiet from the Memento Materia camp lately, but now the Swedish label announces a new album from the duo Sadman. "9th and Last Life" is completed and scheduled for a January 8 release. The limited edition comes in a metal box. An album preview is published at the Sadman MySpace page and another teaser will arrive in December: the digital single "I Hide".

Release gave Sadman's debut album "Cold in the State of Me" a six in April 2008. The new work is said to deliver more dark electropop/rock, this time with more confidence and improved craftsmanship. Sadman even promise to add some "sinister parts".
