AUTO-AUTO
CELESTE
ALBUM OUT OF LINE RELEASE: OCTOBER 24, 2008 REVIEW: DECEMBER 6, 2008

Now it’s time for the difficult second album for the Swedish electro band Auto-Auto when they release “Celeste”, produced by John Fryer. Just like on the debut, “Sounds of a New Generator” we get electro with a tone of harder synthpop but the band manages to maintain a very varied sound all the way through. They work a lot with samples, and also switch soundscapes through the album.

The vocals are quite decent, with an own identity that stands out a bit. The instrumental songs happen to be my favorites, however. Here Auto-Auto use the samples in a creative way, using them like instruments and to build up the track. “I Like It” is a good blend of electro and disco with a touch of eighties feel to it. The other is “The Pathetic Mr. Schneider”, a weird twisty little bit that gets me tapping along the beat.

The problem with the album is the ever present blend between the added elements that just gets a bit too much. With a cleaner production, this band could get better, because the sounds and rhythms really show potential.
