AVANT GARDE
CERTIFIED & TESTED
ALBUM SYNTHPHONY RELEASE: MAY, 2000 REVIEW: AUGUST 11, 2000
|
Erasu…ehh, Avant Garde is back with a second full-length disc. "Certified &
Tested" holds a total of fifteen tracks, which is way too many. There's only
so many perky bleepish synths you can handle during a Wednesday afternoon.
It's uncomplicated, catchy and hyperelectronic.
The first single release off
"Certified & Tested", "Watch Your Back" is a very nice piece of analogue pop
music, as well as "Won't Come Around", a song displaying a particularly
contagious chorus. Avant Garde is qualitative synthpop, with obvious traces
of early eighties electronic pop pioneers. Listening to small portions of
the album is recommendable. Not that any song is remarkably bad, but it's
somewhat similar musically.
Still, Lars and Per Ola may very well increase
the amount of fans with "Certified & Tested", given Erasure's sudden turn
towards more mainstream pop sounds.
