BOBBY
ROMANTIC & BLEEDING
ALBUM IMPERIAL RELEASE: MAY
28, 2003 REVIEW: AUGUST 15, 2003

Looking
only at their use of imagery and elaborated outfits, Bobby uncannily resemble
English/French retro band Zoot Woman. Fortunately, Bobby have spent enough
time in the studio to make "Romantic & Bleeding" sound good
- very good. This package is more kitschy pop music than anything else,
but the use of new wave influences and synthpop-like choruses make them
scrape the Release realm in an almost ridiculously catchy way.
Their first two singles "Sooner or Later" and "Losing Control"
have received extensive rotation on both national Swedish radio and some
of the music channels, proving that the electro retro trend is still reasonably
vital. But like I have said, this is mostly pop music aimed at the radio,
albeit with a hefty new wave complex. Bobby's biggest problem from here
on should be picking the next single, as "Romantic & Bleeding"
is packed to the brim with melody hooks, emotional singing and sing-along
refrains. Definitely not for the Wumpscut fan though, if you know what
I mean.
