BRAVE NEW WORLD
GROOVE THING
ALBUM A DIFFERENT DRUM RELEASE: SPRING 1999 REVIEW: MAY 22, 1999
I really liked the debut album from Brave New World, "Understand". With
smooth, melodic pop songs they seemed to know their way around quality
synthpop. With this followup, "Groove Thing", I'm a bit more hesitant. They
have drifted away from the synthetic and flirt more with traditional pop
music. It's hard to find tracks to cling to when listening to the album the
first time, like "Regret" or "Winter" from the debut. It just doesn't grab
me and I'd advice you to invest in "Understand" instead of this, to put it
frank, boring, album. Aside from the uptempo "I Want Her" and the Duran
Duran cover "Planet Earth", this is really nothing to write home about.
