BODIES WITHOUT ORGANS
PROTOTYPE
ALBUM EMI RELEASE: MARCH 9, 2005 REVIEW: MARCH 24, 2005

After three successful and mighty fresh synthpop bombs during last year, Bodies without Organs seemed set to deliver what could be a future classic within the genre. "Prototype" was to be my darling of the year.
Sadly, this album left me heart broken.
This is a trifle pop album, far from hidden meanings and multi layered, thought provoking sound frames, but seen as such, it still does not hold up. I don't know if it's Alexander Bard or Anders Hansson (the two song writers), but most of the songs repeat the choruses to insanity. An otherwise great song like "Say I Love You" becomes one long row of repetition, but at least it hosts none of the ridiculously frequent "ohh's" and "ahh's" present in virtually every track. It doesn't help that some of the material reminds me of pranksters Army of Lovers (!), Bard's old chart attackers, with a touch more sweeps and bleeps added.
Even though "Prototype" left me in disappointment frenzy, it is a solid body of simple retro pop, cleverly designed for commercial stardom.
