COLONY 5
BURIED AGAIN
ALBUM PROTOTYP, MEMENTO MATERIA RELEASE: FEBRUARY 29, 2008 REVIEW: MARCH 31, 2008

An ambitious wish to create something new has taken the Colony 5 lads to EBM country this time around. Darker, grittier and much more monotonous than before, "Buried Again" may break new ground for the band, but halts their evolution.

I have always been charmed by the finely tuned melodies and power pop choruses of Colony 5, but the harder sound has more trouble reaching me. Expertly produced and with more hooks than your average electro band, the album still struggles. Single track "Knives" is one of the weaker tracks while "Absolute Religion" beautifully contrasts the new found darkness with their patented sense of melody. This is their element, but I can understand a will to slightly stray from it.

"Buried Again" still sounds Colony 5, albeit more ensconced in gloom than before. There is plenty of ear candy for the fans, but some of them, like yours truly, hoped for something more refined and pop flavoured.
