COUNT
TO INFINITY
ONCE IS NOT ENOUGH
ALBUM A DIFFERENT DRUM RELEASE: APRIL
3, 2000 REVIEW: APRIL 27, 2000
|
Count to Infinity is not your common A Different Drum band. It's more of a club
and dance project. John Giacobello, the sole member of the band, has put every
imaginable resource on trying to create slightly mellow music to dance to. Sure,
it makes you want to move your feet from time to time, but I lack a soul, a foundation.
It seems "Once Is Not Enough" floats through the air without anchorage and the
singing of Mr Giacobello is no overwhelmingly emotional experience, it kind of
just exists, without making much noise. A few times, when the dance beat is accompanied
by cool, ambient intermissions, Count to Infinity makes me want to jump and skid
through the house. But mainly I discovered that while listening to "Once Is Not
Enough", my senses drifted towards other trains of thoughts.
There's no doubt this'll work on the dancefloor, and no piece is really remarkably
bad. It just isn't the other way around either.
