THE
DEADLIGHTS THE DEADLIGHTS ALBUM WEA, ELEKTRA RELEASE: FEBRUARY 22, 2000 REVIEW: APRIL 18, 2000 |
This American
band sounds like a mix of Nine Inch Nails, Pantera and The Smashing Pumpkins.
Unfortunately, they sound less The Smashing Pumpkins and more like the others,
but that's all right. Obviously, they are influenced by macho acts like Rammstein
since they seem to have stolen guitar riffs from "Engel" in their own song "Time".
This is very irritating.
The vocalist often sounds very much like Trent Reznor and sometimes he reminds
me of Billy Corgan. He actually sings well when he's not screaming and roaring,
like in "Sweet Oblivion" where the spirit of Mr Corgan and his associates seems
to be present all the time. Another song worth mentioning is the emotional "Foolish
Pride" which is more or less great! It's not enough, although I think this has
good potential to become a commercial success. Next time, I wish these guys
calm down a little and stop the screaming.
