DELPHIC
ACOLYTE
ALBUM V2, CO-OP RELEASE: JANUARY 20, 2010 REVIEW: FEBRUARY 10, 2010

Delphic is a newcomer band from Manchester, England, who plays a sort of alternative dance music. It's a mix of indiepop, beats and electronics that works very well indeed; this style is pioneered by bands like Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem et al. Delphic produce music that is a bit more electronic than the others', and manages to combine their sound with infectious melodies as well. The songs are often epic, varied and have a euphoric feeling to them that is contagious and smile-inducing.

This debut album is a very strong effort, and I feel that this album among others of its ilk proves that if you want to find interesting and innovative electronic music these days, the industrial or synth genres are not your best bet. I have a feeling that fans of those genres might enjoy this though, especially "Halcyon" and "Submission" which is brilliant stuff indeed. The latter is not too far away from pure synthpop, albeit with some guitars and indie styled vocals.
