DIABOLIQUE
BUTTERFLIES
EP NECROPOLIS RELEASE: FEBRUARY 21, 2000
(EUROPE), MARCH 14, 2000 (USA) REVIEW: APRIL 17, 2000
Kristian Wåhlin of Diabolique suffers from a disease that seems to have contaminated
a large number of bands in the electro/goth rock genre. He's having trouble striking
the notes properly. He has singing ability, but it seems he holds back. Musically,
"Butterflies" is both pop and goth, with much attention on the refrains. It's
lightweight, which both helps and sinks them. The six tracks included all have
capacity, but I doubt Diabolique will reach the greater heights. At least not
until their singer starts to use his chords better and their song structures get
an injection of innovation.
