DIVE
TRUE LIES
ALBUM DAFT RELEASE: OCTOBER 18, 1999 REVIEW: NOVEMBER 15, 1999
Dive is a one man project by Dirk
Ivens known from the cult band The Klinik. Dive has released quite a lot of
material since the start in the beginning of the nineties.
The music
reminds me very much of what The Klinik used to make. Suggestive industrial
with distorted vocals, metallic rhythms and a balanced amount of noise. Very
far away from the more commercial up tempo industrial dance which is popular
nowadays. The trendy danceable techno rhythms are not present.
There are
several great tracks on this album, like "Be Yourself" with a refrain
full of feeling and the clinical music which is somewhat of a trademark for
Dive. "Sidewalk Sinner" is probably the only song which suits a dance
floor. It has a moody, repetitive bass line, industrial sounds and all the
other typical Dive ingredients.
Finally,
I'd like to say that this is a good and pretty unusual album. The quality is
high through the entire record. Definitely an album for The Klinik and Suicide
Commando fans.
