DUPONT
UKRAINA
ALBUM LIFE IS PAINFUL RELEASE: JUNE, 2001 REVIEW: JULY 17, 2001

I wonder if the Dupont lads are aware of Pouppée Fabrikk's comeback this year. If so, they picked a terrible time to release their debut album. The vocal form and content as well as much of the sound foundation on "Ukraina" are suspiciously close to Pouppée Fabrikk's earlier works. Sex, sweat and muscles through means of EBM does not shock these days, but may attract some of the die hard fans of DAF, Nitzer Ebb and the mentioned Pouppée Fabrikk.
Parts of "Ukraina" show softer sides of Dupont, but they are rare. Most of it is uncontrolled and rough for rough's sake. What the Swedish trio does have is energy and power. And quite good songs from time to time. Glimpses of contemporary dance rhythms can be spotted on one or two tracks, but "Ukraina" is basically plain old, rough, straight forward, functional electronic body music.
