ELEGANT MACHINERY
A SOFT EXCHANGE
ALBUM OUT OF LINE RELEASE: NOVEMBER 28, 2008 REVIEW: NOVEMBER 18, 2008

It’s been ten years, but now one of Sweden's finest when it comes to quality synthpop have returned. They have continued to play live every now and then but it wasn’t until earlier this spring that we got to hear new material, the result being the first single "Feel the Silence". This was followed by "Move" and now the complete album is finally here.

Leslie Bayne who quit the band in 1992 is back with his songwriting. Fans of the band won’t be disappointed; you can instantly hear that this is Elegant Machinery with their ability to write old school music with analogue sounds, but still managing to keeping it fresh, vital and with integrity.

The album starts off strong, the track "With Grace" is an instant hit that gets into your head and just won’t let go. This is definitely one of the strongest tracks that they have written and this song is just the start. The album continues strong and with just ten tracks this is exactly the sort of quick injection you need. I’m left wanting for more which is the signature of a really good album.

What I like in this band, and the reason that I continue to return to their old albums, is much thanks to Robert Enforsen, who once again shows that he has one of the best voices in the world of electronic music. The blend between his strong vocals, the danceable beats and smooth analogue sounds creates a haunting blend and level of quality is amazing.

This is definitely not a sad attempt at making a comeback but a strong album that fits perfectly into their catalogue. Welcome back Elegant Machinery, you have been missed.
