FAITH AND THE MUSE
EVIDENCE OF HEAVEN (VERSION 2)
ALBUM THE MERCYGROUND RELEASE:
APRIL, 2000 REVIEW: MAY 9, 2000
|
This is a remixed version of the album "Evidence of Heaven", originally released in July 1999. This new edition is released by Faith and the Muse's own label Mercyground.
Don’t let the first few seconds of "Evidence of Heaven" fool you. The short,
classically built "Joy", is a piece hailing from the late 50’s, performed by
the original composer, Joy Richards and also the most beautiful moment of
the album. What follows is sprawling gothic rock with intermissions of
medieval and Victorian structured works.
Musician William Faith and vocalist Monica Richards have created an album
far from the standard goth music mould, with a voluminous female voice and
healthy, unexpected inspirations. All this said, I still have doubts. I
suppose they have achieved what they’re aiming at, but I’m not sure it’s
enough to attract large amounts of fans. I tend to think it’s too much heavy
metal at times too.
Faith and the Muse is about the past - the secrets and mysteries it holds,
and grand moods. Maybe that is enough?
