ALBUM MUSHROOM, PIAS, PLAYGROUND RELEASE: OCTOBER
2, 2001 REVIEW: OCTOBER 11, 2001

After
three years, Garbage is back in town again. They have quite a lot
of pressure on their shoulders, with two very successful albums behind them. The result
of their efforts is this, "Beautiful Garbage", containing thirteen tracks. At least my copy also includes a CD-ROM section, which gives you the nice possibility to mix Garbage songs yourself.
Garbage
is trying out some new ideas on this album, and thus it is a bit incoherent
at times. One track, "Can't Cry These Tears", sounds like a
song from the fifties with its backing singers and chiming bells. Another
track, "Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!)", is very eighties influenced
and catchy. In my point of view, one of the strong points of the
band is their ballads, and they don't disappoint here either. They are
all very beautiful and emotional.
There
is no cause for alarm though, because the trademark full-on action tunes
are here in abundance as well. My favourite is "Parade", which
makes you jump whether you want to or not.
This
album contains a lot of hit worthy tracks, and while not as strong as
its predecessors, it's still very good.
