IMAGINARY WALLS
PALACE OF RAIN
EP DAY STAR RELEASE: OCTOBER, 2003 REVIEW: DECEMBER 12 2003

When I heard this band last time around they were called The Sisters of Mercy. The songs were better, but the singer - who this time around calls himself Sebastian Wiman - pretty much sounded and looked the same. For us who have waited for so long for the follow-up to "Vision Thing", this EP actually is quite a treat. The songs are danceable - just listen to fourth and closing track "December" - the guitars are almost Wayne Hussey-ly picking and shimmering. And the choruses are quite nice and easy to remember.
It’s just too bad that Sisters - or Imaginary Walls as they call themselves now - hasn’t updated their sound. They still sound like something straight out of 1989. Nostalgia is good, yes, but development better.
Oh - this isn’t Sisters, you say? Well, then I must admire these three Swedish lads for coming this close to the Sisters' sound. If they where better songsmiths. Andy Eldritch should be very afraid. With the songs Imaginary Walls create now, he should just be disturbed.
I look forward to the full-lenght, boys. But, as I said, some development would be nice.
