KENT
DOM ANDRA
SINGLE RCA, BMG RELEASE: MARCH 18, 2002 REVIEW: MARCH 24, 2002

The grade I decided to put on this, the new Kent single, is a grade based on both tracks on it. The title track itself, "Dom andra" would have received a seven at least, perhaps even an eight. It's a mid tempo, essentially rock orchestrated track with a catchy whistle melody and Jocke Berg's trademark vocals and cryptic lyrics. Not an obvious single choice, if you ask me, but on the other hand, I haven't yet heard the upcoming album. "Dom andra" is not as verse-chorus oriented as many of their earlier singles, like "Musik Non Stop" and "En himmelsk drog" from the last album. It does have a part near the end, that could be considered a chorus, but as a whole, it's more subtle in that way, which I don't mind at all. It just proves the range of the Kent sound. Musically, it's hard to say anything conclusive. "Dom andra" is quite close to "Hagnesta Hill", with its inclusion of synths, while the extra song "Vintervila" is more "classic rock". It's not as strong as one could expect from a band like Kent, and its anonymity is what drags the grade down. Wait for the album, due out in April.
