KILL THE THRILL
203 BARRIERS
ALBUM SEASON OF MIST RELEASE: FEBRUARY 26, 2001 REVIEW: FEBRUARY 7, 2001

When you first stick this CD in your player, you may think "this sounds pretty good". But then you realise that every song on the album follows the same formula. Nicolas Dick (who sounds a bit like Swedish rock icon Thåström) screaming against a massive backdrop of drums and guitars in a low tempo. Furthermore, you start to notice that different songs share the same melodies. One funny thing is that in the press material they mention the French band's second album "Low" and proudly points out that it is "a balance of noise and quietness, with the impossibility to isolate one song from another".
Admittedly, the songs are quite moody and somewhat melodic but you can't help getting the feeling Kill the Thrill could have done much more, especially when you consider that the band have been making music for twelve years. Starting in 1989, the band has released two albums and undergone some changes in the set-up before ending up as a trio with two male and one female member for this record.
It's obvious they have the technical knowledge, but it's a pity they don't know how to write interesting songs.
