KLICHÉ
PLANET CONFUSION
ALBUM MEMENTO MATERIA RELEASE: OCTOBER 1, 2001 REVIEW: OCTOBER 25, 2001

The band Kliché has been present on the Swedish electro scene for many years now. After two albums they decided to change style. They also have recruited a new, female, singer, Nena, who brings a bit more soul into the songs. The new Kliché sound can be described as a mixture of electronica, pop and trip hop. And they do it pretty well. The production is overall excellent, and the drum loops are smooth. It's pretty obvious, Massive Attack is the major influence at work here.
The problem is that even though this album sounds good, it's actually somewhat boring. The melodies are kind of bland, and not one of the tunes sticks in your head. That's sad, because I feel they were aiming for wider recognition here, and then they certainly need stronger material than this. The album shows great promise however. If they just write better songs, they will make it.
