LEMON JELLY
64-95
ALBUM XL RELEASE: JANUARY 27, 2005 REVIEW: MARCH 16, 2005

Lemon Jelly is a British duo consisting of Nick Franglen and Fred Deakin who are making smooth breaks, dance electronica or whatever you want to call it. This second proper full length (the first was a collection of EP:s) entitled “64-95” is a varied affair with each track based upon samples from different years. Mostly instrumental except for vocal samples, they’re groovy, fluffy, funky, musical and I can use other positive adjectives as well. Interesting enough to keep the concept working throughout.
It’s not an all out dance affair; actually some tracks are quite laid back and down tempo. Then we have the aptly titled single “The Shouty Track”, with ringing guitars and dirty beats working together creating a song you can’t possibly sit still to.
The covers of Lemon Jelly are always colourful and aesthetic, which I guess is a must when one of the members is a graphic designer. This one is beautiful in a seventies kind of way.
