LIGHTS OF EUPHORIA
GEGEN DEN STROM
ALBUM ACCESSION RELEASE: NOVEMBER 22, 2004 REVIEW: DECEMBER 22, 2004

It took Lights of Euphoria a little longer than usual to start dabbling in with the futurepop genre. Last year's "Krieg gegen die Maschinen" saw them abandon parts of their more relentless body music for more melody and several guest vocalists. The new album "Gegen den Strom" may have given original vocalist Jimmy Machon more space to growl, but the music is more commercially polished now.
Like the preceding single "One Nation", many of the album tracks hold an unmistakably Front 242-esque quality that lift them above the vast ocean of standardized electro. Static beats, sudden melodic outbursts and several pretty darn solid tracks makes "Gegen den Strom" reasonably enjoyable.
Far from synthpop and equally far from industrial, Lights of Euphoria roam the regions in between. And do so better than ever.
