MELODY CLUB
FACE THE MUSIC
ALBUM VIRGIN, EMI RELEASE: AUGUST 25, 2004 REVIEW: SEPTEMBER 2 , 2004

Melody Club has never been a synthpop band, although media wants to play them out as such. It is, however, a fabulous pop band, wallowing in eigthies imagery and umm... interesting hairdos. And Melody Club just happen to like spicing up the sound with synthesizers. This time out, the band has played down the electronics a bit, instead focusing more on acoustic guitars and drums. The ability to write smashing tunes isn't lost though!
The two fantastic tracks “Cats in the Dark” and (especially) “Wildhearts” are like super glue and sticks to your mind instantly. But does the entire cat really glow in the dark? Please tell me, Kristofer.
That said, some compositions are a bit too simple and naïve, and become annoying after repeated listens.
If you liked their debut album, I can’t see why you should be disappointed. The two tracks mentioned above actually make it better in my opinion. Just remember, it's not synthpop, and even less so this time around.
