MONOLITHIC
POWER UNDIMINISHED ALBUM FLAMING FISH RELEASE: JULY, 2000 REVIEW: SEPTEMBER 21, 2000 You have to encourage people who try to blow new life into an electropop genre being too similar to stay healthy. Monolithic, a one man project from Canada, does just this. Dance and techno influences turn "Power Undiminished" into a hyperelectronic club theme. The one member, Midihead, former vocalist of synthpop band Paradigm, kicks things off with a genuine masterpiece. "Arms" is the perfect dance track; fast and electronic with great vocals and fat bass drums. There are several instrumentals included as well and they are all good, but can't quite stand up to the vocal tracks. However, "Window of Faith", "Redemption" and "Unchain" are all excellent examples of what the future sound of synthpop could develop into. NIKLAS FORSBERG |
