MOULIN NOIR
BOY IN DARKNESS
ALBUM A DIFFERENT DRUM RELEASE: APRIL, 2004 REVIEW: JUNE 2, 2004

Moulin Noir - Anders Wikholm - in full makeup, looks pretty intimidating, I have to say. Listening to his musical endeavours one can not help but be more than a little surprised. Synthpop drawing heavily on the new romantic heritage may not be what is expected from a long haired goth, but that's what "Boy in Darkness" serves us.
Now, Moulin Noir usually intrigues me for ten or so minutes before Wikholm's wailing vocals get on my nerves. The songs themselves range from mighty catchy, like the single "A New Frontier", to rather bland analogue machine masturbation where all focus seems lost. I rather liked the remix disc "The White Room" actually, as it offered more variation soundwise. So, if you're looking for masked entertainment, I suggest renting or buying "Freddy vs Jason" on DVD instead (it's better than its rumour!) of "Boy in Darkness" (just kidding). Anders has the touch, but I think outside input would be valuable on further releases.
