MY
DYING BRIDE
THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE WORLD
ALBUM PEACEVILLE RELEASE: NOVEMBER 8, 1999 REVIEW: NOVEMBER 9, 1999
The British doom metal heroes are back with yet another album. Their previous
one, “34.788%... Complete” was a very good one. Unfortunately, this one turns
out to be a huge disappointment. Are they trying to please the really
conservative My Dying Bride fans or what? The vocals are pretty often of
growling death metal style. Not all the time but it's sad to hear Aaron
Stainthorpe, who sometimes is a great vocalist, use his voice like this.
The worst
thing with the album is the song quality, unfortunately. Most of the songs bore
me to death. I definitely prefer to play “The Angel and The Dark River” or
“34.788%... Complete” instead of this relatively weak album. There aren't any
really bad songs but...
Over to the nice stuff:
“Into the Lake of Ghosts” is a really nice and melancholic song. The vocals and
guitars are great and those are the important parts when it comes to My Dying
Bride. Another song worth mentioning is “Sear Me III”, which ends the album. It
is calm and peaceful. You don't have to cope with growling and you don't fall
asleep either. Sounds fine, doesn't it?
