PARIS
YELLOW EDEN
ALBUM LOOK LEFT, V2 RELEASE: OCTOBER 27, 2003 REVIEW: NOVEMBER 24, 2003

Suddenly, just like that, the word "indie" made sense to me. I have often pondered over the real meaning and characteristics of that particular genre. One look at the album sleeve for the very first Paris album says it all. As does the production, or should I say, the intentional lack thereof. "Yellow Eden" sounds almost painfully stripped down, but works well anyway as it adds to the overall impression of, you guessed it, the "indie" aura.
Essentially pop in structure, most songs have a light punkish rock attitude, but there is a quite striking melancholic side to Paris as well. The single "Disco Fever" is proof of this in that is reminds me of Broder Daniel's brighter moments.
Paris don't last for a full album, but they genuinely seem to do what they want. The 60's inspired closing ballad "Quiet Night" ends things on a positive note, making me believe that the world needs more of Paris.
