PLASTIC
BLACK COLOURS
ALBUM ACCESSION RELEASE: OCTOBER 24, 2003 REVIEW: NOVEMBER 2, 2003

Innovation, skill, curiosity, identity. Some of the things I look for in a band. Unfortunately none of these are present in Plastic’s music. Just the fact that the intro begins with the drum sample from Led Zeppelin’s “When the Levee Breaks” speaks volumes. You’re hard pressed to find a more overused sample. The production is razor thin throughout the album, and it sounds like Plastic has found an old recipe for making futurepop. Everything just oozes lazyness. All the sounds are bog standard stuff, and the vocals sound like a recording of Tom Shear from Assemblage 23 - but worse. When listening to "Home" for example, I could swear I was listening to "Disappoint" by A23 instead. The verse sounds so similar it's silly. Plastic is a band on the German alternative charts which are two albums into their career.
The only redeeming factor here is that shockingly enough there are some pretty decent melodies around here and there. I guess some of this could do well on the dancefloors, but I wouldn’t recommend it for serious listening.
