POSH
IN VANITY WE TRUST
ALBUM PLANET RELEASE: MAY 3, 1999 REVIEW: MAY 22, 1999
If you're familiar with the Chinese Detectives single "You Think You're a
Man" you may recognize the voice of Posh, Desiree Grandahl. She and Preben
Bjönnes form Norway's Yazoo and at the same time the best Norwegian synthpop
I've ever heard. It's impossible not to compare Desiree's smooth vocals to
the powerful voice of Alison Moyet, I'm impressed! The songs on "In Vanity
We Trust" are perfectly balanced, danceable fast synthpop compositions and
intense ballads where the vocals are even more exposed. It's an album no
synthpop fan would want to miss. Great, catchy refrains, analogue
synthsounds and a spotless production. And with the female voice Posh
already has an advantage. There's a risk, however, that you'll walk around
smiling all day after listening to "In Vanity We Trust", especially if you
start with track three, the fabulous "Is Vanity Fair?". Synthpoppers: buy or
die!
